Yushchenko to make excursion to Secretariat for journalists

Yushchenko to make excursion to Secretariat for journalists

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko will hold an open house on June 6, dedicated to the Journalist’s Day, the President’s press service informs.

Within that action the excursions for journalists to State residences such as the House with Chimeras, the building on 23 Luteranska str. and the Secretariat will be conducted.

The photo exhibition “President and Mass Media” and an exhibition of presents given to President are being organized.

At 2 p.m. Yushchenko will make a greeting speech and will hold a conversation with journalists.

As a reminder, the Journalist’s Day is celebrated on June 6.

Feldman to represent Ukraine at world lawyers congress

Feldman to represent Ukraine at world lawyers congress

The international conference “Democracy and safety: fundamental values and rational policy” will take place on June 5-6, in Prague. The organizers are famous politicians and lawyers Vaclav Gavel, Hose Maria Aznar and Natan Sharansky, ForUm ‘s correspondent reports.

The USA President George Bush and the heads of the other European states, as well as the leading activists of the law movement, acting and former politicians, public men and scientists will arrive specially to participate in that forum.

The questions on democracy development of the former totalitarian countries, the democratization of Iraq society and the problems, connected with the Israel-Palestinian conflict will be discussed.

The only invited person from Ukraine is the People’s deputy of Ukraine, lawmaker and a public man Olexander Feldman.

Lutsenko to participate in elections

There are many differences between opposition forces concerning formation of one democratic power bloc, Yury Lutsenko, the leader of “People’s movement Self-defense” told yesterday at the press conference in Mykolaiv. Yury Lutsenko considers statement of Vyacheslav Kyrylenko the OU leader concerning forming of one bloc with People’s Self-defense” exaggerated.

He noted that they held negotiations on this issue some weeks ago but had no decision.

He also noted that “People’s movement Self-defense” is ready to participate in the early parliamentary elections. According to him, the main objective should be the creation of a new structure that “will work to protect people’s rights.”

Yanukovych met with head of the Federal Atomic Energy Agency of Russia Serhiy Kyriyenko

Ukraine will study an offer of Russia concerning participation in creating the International centre for uranium enrichment in the town of Anharsk of the Irkutsk region which the Ukrainian delegation is going to attend soon. Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych stated during his meeting with head of the Federal Atomic Energy Agency of Russia Serhiy Kyriyenko, “Cabinet press office” informed.

“Your last offer on creating the center in Anharsk – we’ll study it. In the nearest future our delegation is going to visit this place, we’ll study it and take a decision. I see no problems,” the PM said.

In the course of bipartite negotiations the Prime Minister emphasized positive fuel and energy cooperation between Ukraine and Russia noting that between two countries and energy blocs of governments the strategy partnership is developing in three directions – supply of atomic fuel to Ukraine, its utilization as well as scientific and technical cooperation.

“Relations between our countries are exemplary,” Viktor Yanukovych underscored and noted that it also concerns the leaders of relative ministries and departments of Russia and Ukraine.

The Head of Government expressed hope that visit of Serhiy Kyriyenko to Ukraine “will strengthen more bipartite relations and create new conditions for further common activity”.

Moroz: There are no 150 resignation applications in parliament

For today there are no 150 resignation applications in the parliament that have no doubts and could be a ground for parliament dissolution. Olexander Moroz the VRU speaker told today at the press conference, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

The matter concerns that there are not enough applications that follow norms and on the basis of which the parliament can be dissolved.

Ancient civilization was found in Poltava region

Ancient civilization was found in Poltava region

The unique tumulus has been found by archeologists on the territory of Poltava region. Near the Dmitrovka village they have found the remains of 15 inhabitants of Left-bank Ukraine. The oldest of them lived approximately in lV B.C.

According to archeologists, the last burial places in the found tumulus had been already accomplished in Kievan Rus times. The representatives of six tribes and nationalities, found here their last shelter. The searchers were amazed by the rests of two Hungarian girls, aged five and seven years approximately .

The unique jewelry was found in their burial places. According to Olexander Suprunenko, the expedition head of the Archeological Institute of Ukraine, the Hungarian tribes of the Middle Volga region were forced to move to the Transnistrian steppes (Pridneprovie).

They met with the pechenegs who started to press them and became their main competitors. And so they came to the Transnistrian steppes, wishing to receive the next motherland and a shelter for nomads.

But after a year or two, they received the permission from the Old Russian princes and got to the right bank of the Dnipro river, moving to the Panonsky plains, where they created the future Hungarian kingdom, the head of the search expedition told.

BYuT promises separate power from business

Yulia Tymoshenko promises to separate power from business after obtaining power. She told yesterday on “Inter” channel. Commenting on journalist statement that Tymoshenko had already headed Cabinet of Ukraine, she noted: “Do you believe I had power? Do you think I formed the government? Do you think I appointed shadow businessmen for Ministers posts? It was not me. I was a hostage of that situation!”

“In case our team gets significant support in the society, none of the swindlers will come to power,” Yulia Tymoshenko said.

“The Cabinet will consist of professional Ministers, who will live for Ukraine but not for their shadow business,” she added.

“Museum of Soviet occupation” was opened in Kyiv

The “Memorial” society named after Vasyl Stus has opened the “Museum of Soviet occupation” on 6 Stelmah str., Kyiv.

The decision on that was made at the Kyiv’s regional society department conference on May 26, 2007.

The exposition “Beyond the oblivion: the chronic of communist inquisition of the years 1917-1991” forms the museum basis.

The expositions “Ukranian Solovky”, “Kyiv’s passional (Kyiv’s memorial destroyed by the communists)”, “Holodomor in documentary photos”.

The exposition “National war”, dedicated to peasant-cossack rebellions, is being developed.

The museum is opened from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. except for Sunday. The admission is free in June. “The museum works on a voluntary basis”, as it is said on the “Memorial” site.

At the same time, information about museum creation has been met doubtfully in Ukraine, as “the 5th channel” informed.

“The museum’s staff complains of threats directing against them. The hacker attack has been already made on the “Memorial’ site. At the same time, people say this exposition opens quite a number of “blank spots” in the Soviet history, “the 5th channel” notes.
