People's deputies resigned law on Ukraine joining WTO

People’s deputies resigned law on Ukraine joining WTO

People’s deputies have approved the resolution which cancels the necessary law for the Ukraine joining the WTO, adopted on November 28, 2002. ForUm’s correspondent reports.

326 people’s deputies voted for that resolution.

People’s deputies have approved the law concerning the WTO “On State biosecurity system in the processes of creation, testing and practical usage of genetically modified organisms”.

President meets Croatian Speaker

President Victor Yushchenko on Thursday met with Croatia’s Parliament Speaker Vladimir Šeks, according to president’s press office.

They praised close relations between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Croatian Sabor. Yushchenko expressed hopes this cooperation would continue to develop. 

The president urged Croatia to take part in infrastructure development projects to host the Euro 2012 finals and asked the Sabor to recognize Ukraine’s Soviet-era famine as genocide. 

Yushchenko invited Šeks to visit Ukraine after its snap poll.

PR needs 2-3 days more

The PR people’s deputy Taras Chornovil considers the parliament will have enough time today to adopt necessary draft bills for early elections.

Except draft bills for early parliamentary elections, Chornovil emphasized on importance to adopt the draft bills necessary for Ukraine’s accession into the WTO. According to him, the VRU should pass budget resolution for next year.

Chornovil also stressed that there are still no consent on draft bill on imperative mandate between opposition and coalition.

He also informed that the majority of drafts the coalition is ready to adopt, but it needs two-three days more.

Ukraine and Croatia signed range of agreements

Ukraine and Croatia signed range of agreements

Ukraine and Croatia have signed agreements on customs assistance and cooperation in the field of education and a science.

Agreements have been signed during the official visit of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko to Croatia.

The intergovernmental agreement regulates a question of mutual help performance to customs bodies of Ukraine and Croatia in maintenance of appropriate customs legislation compliance, especially regarding prevention, revealing, suppression and investigation of infringements customs legislation.

Signing the agreement, appropriate conditions for interaction of customs administrations of two countries will be created.

Also, the Program of cooperation in the field of education, sciences and technologies between the Ministry of education and science of Ukraine and the Ministry of science and technologies of Croatia Republic was signed. According to the document, the parties agreed on information and experience interchange, and to establish direct cooperation between educational institutions and scientifically-skilled establishments, to perform grants on the mutual base for students, aspirants and doctors on a purpose of probation period.

Besides, Croatia Republic can liberalize visa regime for Ukraine. The President of Croatia Stepan Mesic informed that at the press conference after the meeting with the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko. According to him, the existing visa regime becomes an increasing barrier in development of cooperation between the countries and development of the Croatian economy.

Opposition to resign today

BYuT and “Our Ukraine” factions intend to register their resignation applications in the secretariat of the VRU today. Josyf Vinsky the BYuT people’s deputy told today the parliamentary journalists, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

According to him, together with OU members there should be about 170 resignation applications. “It is time to register these applications in order to avoid speculations,” he said. 106 BYuT people’s deputies have signed resignation applications All people’s deputies from BYuT faction voted for such decision to register resignation applications.

European Parliament calls Ukrainian politicians to follow agreements

The European parliament calls the participants of the political process in Ukraine to follow reached agreements on compromise concerning regulation of the political situation. Adrian Severin chairman of the special delegation fo the EP told today at the press conference.

He noted that European deputies came to Ukraine to estimate main point of the joint statement of President, PM and VRU chairman.

He noted that the EU appreciates this statement as it is a result of the political agreements.

According to him, such statement gives guarantees that the parliamentary elections will be transparent and democratic. Moreover, this agreement allows to adopt minimum draft package of laws and norms necessary for the Ukrainian people.

At the same time, Severin noted that the statement is an important step, but still does not highlight reasons that led to the crisis situation in Ukraine. “There are still significant divergences between leaders of the country that is potentially dangerous,” he added.

He also calls all the political and public leaders to complete successfully constitutional reform in order to establish reliable mechanism and to distinguish all branches of power.

Severin expressed readiness of the European Parliament to help Ukraine in case of necessity.

He also noted that nonobservance of reached agreements may lead to serious concequences, influence society attitude and relations between Ukraine and the EU.

Presidents of Ukraine and Croatia exchanged awards

Presidents of Ukraine and Croatia exchanged awards

The leaders praised relations between two countries and honored each other with state awards for their contribution to the development of friendly cooperation between Ukraine and Croatia.

The President of Croatia presented to Yushchenko Order of King Tomislav. Yushchenko in his turn presented Yaroslav the Wise Order to the president of Croatia.

Yushchenko thanked for the high award, expressing thought that he sees in that not only his merit but also a merit of represented by him country.

According to Yushchenko, there is an active political dialog between two countries. Moreover, it is the fourth meeting at the highest level for the last year. “We can see that political and business relations are at the special stage,” Yushchenko noted.

Mesic in his turn thanked for the award and noted that the Order presenting by Yushchenko is a sign of acknowledgement for all he did in the sphere of making friendly relations between the countries.

Yushchenko set ultimatum to parliament

In case the VRU does not realize political agreements, early parliamentary elections will take place in 60 days, the President Viktor Yushchenko told today in Croatia at the joint press conference with Stepan Mesich the Croatian President.

Yushchenko expressed hope that the parliament will adopt necessary draft bill for early elections today.

“Otherwise, BYuT and Our Ukraine will formalize people’s deputies resignation and in 60 days the elections should take place in accordance with the Constitution,” he said.
