Mission from World Association Of Nuclear Operator’s Moscow office visiting Rivne and Southern Ukrainian nuclear power stations

Experts from the World Association of Nuclear Operator’s Moscow office are on a technical support mission to the Rivne and Southern Ukrainian nuclear power stations from April 25 to 28, the press service of the Enerhoatom national nuclear power generating company has announced, according to Cabinet press office.

Experts from Russia, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia will familiarize themselves with the accident response system at the Rivne and Southern Ukrainian nuclear power stations and the operations of the relevant subdivisions.

During a meeting in Kyiv with the experts from the World Association of Nuclear Operator’s Moscow office, Enerhoatom’s President Andrii Derkach stressed that he was hoping the experts would take a practical rather than formal approach during their technical support mission.

Enerhoatom operates the four nuclear power stations in Ukraine, which account for about 50% of the total quantity of electricity generated in the country.

160 people’s deputies appealed to the CCU concerning legitimacy of the President’s decree on the VRU dissolution and elections term of April 26.

Ivan Avramov head of the CC press office informed.

He also said that the CC judges keep on consider case on legitimacy of the Presidential decree on April 2 at closed plenary session.

President to resort to force

Symonenko: President to resort to force

The CPU leader Petro Symonenko offered the people’s deputies in the parliament to collect signatures throughout all Ukraine on distrust to the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko within power usurpation. The Forum’s correspondent informs.

Symonenko considers that on May 1 the actions should take place “that will show the solidarity of the political forces of the coalition.” “I offer to organize regional Maydans throughout all Ukraine in order to collect signature and express attitude to power usurpation,” he noted.

According to Symonenko the President is going to resort to force to solve the political crisis in the country: “The Presidents starts the final stage of his maniacal program – forceful solution of the given problem.”

He declared the President intends not to let the people’s deputies in the parliament on May holidays.

Yushchenko pays visit to Poland

On April 27 the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko will pay one-day working visit to Poland. The visit’s objective is to attend on occasion of 60th anniversary of “Vistula” operation.

The President is expected to hold meetings with Lech Kacinski the Poland’s President and Yaroslav Kacinski the PM of Poland.

The Ukrainian and Polish Presidents will also participate in ecumenical prayer on victims as a result of “Vistula” operation.

Moreover, Yushchenko plans to hold a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian community in Poland.

SPF offers 1% of Ukrtelecom for sale on PFTS

The State Property Fund will offer 1% of the shares in Ukrtelecom, Ukraine’s largest telecommunications company, on sale on the First Stock Trading System (PFTS) on June 8, Cabinet press office reported.

The sale was published in the privatization Bulletin newspaper on April 25.

Last week, the State Property Fund announced that it would offer 1% of the shares in Ukrtelecom for sale on the Ukrainian Stock Exchange on may 22.

Earlier, representatives of the State Property Fund explained that the 1% stakes in Ukrtelecom that were being offered for sale would be divided into small lots and offered at the starting price of UAH 2-3 million.

In total, the State Property Fund plans to sell 5% of the shares in Ukrtelecom in the first two quarters of this year in 1% stakes and aims to generate about UAH 1 billion from their sale.

The State Property Fund announced an updated plan for sale of shares in Ukrtelecom on March 21.

The plans provides for preservation of state ownership of a 50% stake + 1 share in the company, sale of 37.86% on international stock exchanges from August 1 to December 31, 2007, and sell 5% (1% at a time) on five Ukrainian stock exchanges from March 28 to June 23, 2007.

Ukrtelecom is a monopolist on the market of fixed-pine communications in Ukraine.

The state owns 92.86% of the shares in the company; 7.145 have been sold the company’s employees.

Political situation in Ukraine complicated

Terry Davis: Political situation in Ukraine complicated

The Council of Europe General Secretary Terry Davis considers that the situation in Ukraine becomes more complicated comparing with times of last meeting with the Ukrainian politicians. He told yesterday after the meeting with the VRU speaker Olexander Moroz.

According to him, the situation has both negative and positive character. Forming of working group belongs to positive one. Davis appreciates this group consists of representatives of all political forces.

At the same time he noted that solution of the current crisis concerns not only opposition and coalition but all politicians. He opines that CCU verdict is necessary to solve the problem.

Terry Davis intends to keep on the consultations with the Ukrainian politicians to make the situation more clear.

President writes letter to PM

Victor Yushchenko has sent a letter to Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych to say he is worried about the situation in Ukraine’s judicial system. It isinsufficiently financed and almost no measures have been taken so far to adapt it to the European standards, he added, according to president’s press office.

He asked the PM to personally consider an appeal by the Supreme Court of Ukraine, the Council of Justices of Ukraine and the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine and increase spending on the judicial branch when proposing changes to this year’s budget.

President presents Chornobyl awards

Victor Yushchenko on Thursday presented state awards to a group of the Chornobyl liquidators to mark the 21st anniversary of the world’s worst ever nuclear accident president’s press office informs.

“I am honored today to present the people in this hall with high awards as a token of respect for your exploit. On behalf of the Ukrainian nation, I would like to express gratitude to you,” he said.

“…We understand that there is no past tense in the Chornobyl issue. It follows us every day and will be following us for decades. Ukraine is bearing the heavy burden of Chornobyl,” he said in a speech, adding that lots of measures had been taken in the past several years to help and support those in charge of the removal of the consequences of the 1986 blast.

He reiterated his demand that the country’s central and regional executive bodies develop the contaminated area around the shuttered nuclear power plant, rehabilitate those affected by the accident and create favorable conditions for their activity. He added that it was time we should look at this uninhabited territory as having prospects and put it to use again. He said it was vital to introduce healthcare and economic reforms in Chornobyl and attract investment to revitalize it.

“We are obliged to renew it, search for and implement new forms of post-Chornobyl revival,” he said, suggestingrevisingthe Law on the Status and Social Protection of the Chornobyl Victims.

Yushchenkosaid the country had been facing formidable challenges since the closure of the power plant, thanking Ukraine’s international partners for their assistance in coping with the lingering effects of the accident.

Then they observed one minute of silence in memory of the blast victims.
