Ukrainians in UK collecting signatures to recognize Holodomor 1932 -1933 as genocide

Ukrainians in the UK have initiated collecting signatures to demand from British Prime Minister Tony Blair to recognize the 1932 to 1933 Famine in Ukraine as a genocide against the Ukrainian nation, “Cabinet press office” reported.

The initiators also requested the British Parliament to reassert and investigate the famine.

West Europe was familiar with the event, but pretended to notice nothing. The big mistake should be corrected in order for justice to rule.

The history of Ukraine is also the history of Europe, thus, the Ukrainians, residing in Great Britain requested the British Government to support the UN resolution on recognition of the famine as the genocide. The event will last through February 15, 2008.

The 1932 -1933 famine in Ukraine resulted in a death toll of 7 to 10 millions.

The famine was officially recognized in Australia, Hungary, Vatican, Lithuania, Estonia, Italy, Argentina, Canada, Poland and USA.

Baloha calls General Office of Public Prosecutor "blackmail instrument"

Baloha calls General Office of Public Prosecutor "blackmail instrument"

Secretariat Chief of Staff Viktor Baloha thinks thatcharges against former interior minister Yuriy Lutsenko, who leads the People’s Self-Defense campaign,as well astoday’s search in his apartment, obviously show that the General Office of Public Prosecutor is controlled by the ruling coalition and its government, President’s press office informs.

“Yesterday, the President spoke about the privatized Prosecutor General’s Office during his meeting with Prime Minister and Parliament Speaker and today it showed that the President’s criticism had been fair,” he said.

Baloha said the search in Lutsenko’s home showed that the PGO “is becoming an instrument of blackmail.”

“The morning visit and search is a clear signal to all those who disagree with the government’s new course… Our society is being shown the new role of the General Office of Public Prosecutor, repressive for some people and ‘whitening’ for others,” he said, adding that Prosecutor General Medvedko and his office were driven mainly by political motives. This is why the General Office of Public Prosecutor closed a number of controversial cases against Ukraine’s odious figures, whose actions had affected thousands of Ukrainians, he added.

Baloha presumed the General Office of Public Prosecutor sought to limit the efforts of Lutsenko and those who support his campaign.

“The General Office of Public Prosecutor is apparently trying to put out social protests which make the country’s ruling parties nervous,” he said.

Baloha expressed hopes all illegal motives would be removed from the so-called Lutsenko case.

“The General Office of Public Prosecutor should prove in court and explain to our society that its charges against Lutsenko are substantiated, otherwise the remaining faith of Ukrainians in honest law enforcement officers will be ruined forever.”

Prime
Minister Viktor Yanukovich said to journalists that the General Prosecutor’s
Office made the search of Lutsenko’s apartments on the grounds of court’s
decision.

“I’ve
learned that only at 10 a.m. I don’t control the General Prosecutor’s Office
and its actions,” he said.

The

Opposition will finally “privatize” President?

The people’s deputy, a member of Party of Regions Taras Chornovil is convinced that the President should declare that he will not veto drafts bills adopted by the parliament without opposition, as BYuT and OU insist on it. He told the ForUm’s correspondent.

“The President should declare that he is the President of the whole country and someone from the representatives of the opposition has no privatization right for him. Otherwise it is disrespect towards the President,” Chernovil said.

He noted that the President has right to veto laws as to lack of correspondence to the Constitution but not because “Tymoshenko and her devoted servant Kyrylenko like it or not.”

Commenting situation around Ohryzko appointment and possible submission of his candidature for the third time, Chernovil noted that “it will be even not funny, but in any case the President has right to do it without any limitations.”
