Ukraine’s PM is not against strong opposition

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych declares that the parliamentary coalition and coalition Government is not against strong opposition in the country but will take “strict stand” concerning attempts of opposition to destabilize the situation.

The PM called the opposition not to violate principles of democracy that it so much propagated.

“Democracy foresees first of all order. Democracy does not foresee to treat the VR in such neglected way. We have enough force to make order in the parliament and in the country,” Yanukovych said.

He noted that the parliamentary coalition and the Government is not against that opposition will be strong and pointed the power at its mistakes. The PM noted that he always intends to hear to critics of opposition and in proper time to improve made mistakes. “But we stand for opposition not to destabilize the country and not to violate the laws,” he said.

President offers best wishes to military

Victor Yushchenko has offered his best wishes to war veterans and army officers celebrating Fatherland Defender’s Day, President’s press office informs.

He thanked those who defended Ukraine in war and those who serve in the army today.

“Like December 6 and October 14, Ukrainian Army Day and Ukrainian Cossack Movement Day, this date [February 23] has been observed to honor our nation’s valor and feats,” he said.

The President said our society was gradually learning to respect the Ukrainian army and appreciate the commitment and courage of its heroes.

Yushchenko will submit candidatures of Korol and Ohryzko until they are confirmed in office

The representative of the President in the VR of Ukraine Roman Zvarych declares that the President will submit for consideration the candidatures of Korol and Ohryzko until the parliament confirms them in office. He told the journalists in an interview.

Answering the journalists’ question how many times the President may submit the same candidatures, Zvarych said that there is now restrictions on this in the Constitution of Ukraine.

According to Zvarych, the President considers the candidatures of Ohryzko and Korol the most appropriate who will allow the President fulfill his direct authorities, determined by the Constitution.

Zvarych informed that according to new version of the law on the Cabinet, in case the President during 15 days does not submit correspondent candidatures, it can do the parliamentary coalition. “As for me, it is something impossible when the Constitution says one thing and the Law says otherwise,” Zvarych said.

He also informed that it is planned to carry out additional consultations between the candidates and representatives of the parliamentary factions.

Ukraine imposed a ban on the poultry and its products from Czechia as a result of Newcastle disease registered on its territory.

According to the State department of veterinary medicine of Ukraine, poultry import from Czechia and Egypt, were foot-and-mouth disease is registered, is forbidden to Ukraine.

Import of other production should be carried out in accordance with veterinary demands..

Ukraiine’s President works even on his birthday

The President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko turned 53 today but he has been spending the day at his job.

He has received birthday greetings from Georgia’s Ambassador to Ukraine and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Grygol Katamadze, President of the National Academy of Sciences Borys Paton, Patriarch Filaret and Metropolitan Volodymyr.

Representatives of central and local authorities, judiciary, scientific institutions, members of parliament, political leaders, business people, religious communities, establishments and enterprises congratulated the President on his birthday. Birthday greetings for the President from ordinary Ukrainian citizens continue to come.

The President was born on February 23, 1954.

The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko called upon the Government to refuse the struggle for authorities. He told in an interview.

Answering the journalists’ question, whether we are ready for such democratic steps as “round tables”, universal pacts and gentlemen agreements, the President answered: “I am convinced that we are ready. The matter is to determine precise the mutual position.”

According to him, one cannot leave in such chaos as we have now, when every day there is a struggle for authorities.

“It seems that the Government is not interested in anything else except authorities. Health protection, education, judicial reform – the government has nothing to do with this,” Yushchenko said.

Today the Defense Minister of Ukraine Anatoly Hrytsenko will present a flagship model of Armed Naval Forces of Ukraine frigate “Hetman Sahaydachny” to the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenkoon on occasion of the President’s birthday, Hrytsenko told at the briefing

Hrytsenko reminded that during his visits to Crimea Yushchenko visited frigate and gave instructions on reparation and financing of work.

“This work is being carried out and I think It will be a pleasant association for the President,” the Minister said.

Hrytsenko noted that a ship model is made by the Ukrainian seamen.

President wants ‘modern’ security policy

Ukraine, like Europe, seeks to develop different aspects of collective security, Victor Yushchenko has said in Simferopol during a TV interview, President’s press office informed.

“I am convinced our security policy will help Ukraine build its future if it agrees with continental security of our neighbors,” he said.

The President promised there would be no foreign military bases in Ukraine.

“I think Ukraine will not be interested in providing its territory for military bases of any country. Having no such bases corresponds to Ukraine’s interests,” he said, adding that no military headquarters can be opened in Ukraine under its constitution.

He also said Ukraine must make it clear that nuclear weapons systemwill never be deployed on its territory.

“Ukraine must have modern security policies matching our national interests,” he said.
