Yanukovych “follows Yushchenko’s steps’

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych intends to pay an official visit to Germany.

The deputy head of the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine Olexander Chaly told today at the briefing, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

“Now directives to this visit are developed,” he said.

According to Chaly, intensive schedule of bilateral meetings is formed, and German direction becomes one of the most priorities in the foreign policy of Ukraine.

“And visit of the PM to Germany is a part of such bilateral dialogue,” he noted.

He also noted that “maybe in autumn Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel will visit Ukraine.”

Yushchenko will held a meeting with Putin in March

The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko will pay an official visit to Russian Federation at the beginning of March.

The deputy head of the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine Olexander Chaly told today at the briefing, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

“Yushchenko will visit Russia in early March, but it is preliminary and not final information,” he said.

According to Chaly, the preparation of action plan of the Ukrainian-Russian relations for 2007-2008 should be completed at the level of specialists of two countries up to March 1.

Completion of this plan will make meeting of the Presidents Yushchenko and Putin possible,” he noted.

BYuT will stay at night in the parliament

BYuT will stay at night in the parliament

The members of BYuT faction intend to block electrical control unit of the VRU during all night. Olexander Turchynov a member of BYuT faction told the journalists.

He noted that people’s deputies will be on duty at the electrical control unit. But he refused to tell exactly number of people’s deputies. “If it will be necessary we will be on duty up to the morning,” he said.

Turchynov also said that BYuT proposed the “Our Ukraine” faction to join the duty.

Moreover, according to him, BYuT will block parliament work until the VR gives consent to make a decision on raise of social payments and to solve problems in tariffs policy.

Ukraine’s PM: Tariffs should be fair

Despite the fact that tariffs are determined in regions and the local authorities are responsible for them, the Government will do its best to make these tariffs be fair for every region. Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych disclosed at the Government sitting, “Cabinet pres office” informed.

Opening the sitting, the Prime Minister noted that the current problem of sharp increase in tariffs is a result of unsuccessful activity of the previous governments which adopted decisions on tariff increase ignoring timely creation of the controlling mechanism and respective compensation for citizens.

The Office of Public Prosecutor and Government Price Inspection are completing control of the tariff reasonableness at local level. On completion the necessary organization conclusions will be drawn and decisions on standardization of reasonably increased tariffs adopted.

At the same time the Head of Government stressed that only by common efforts of central and local authorities it would be possible to introduce order into communal tariffs. In this connection the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov and Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak are commissioned to immediately draft a proper mechanism of interaction.

“In every region there are different conditions of housing and communal complex, different conditions of supply, for example, water supply, and correspondingly price formation and etc. But it is wrong when payment of housing and communal services is sharply different between the regions”, Viktor Yanukovych said.

The Prime Minister has also focused attention on the necessity to stop politicization of tariff issue. The residents of regions should not experience the political process and the government authorities shall be concerned with problem solving of the state.

“We will demand efficient performance of official duties despite of party membership and flags. We have an equal approach and will demand equally – in spite of the fact if the party forms the parliamentary coalition or not. On the contrary, we will demand more from the coalition parties”, Viktor Yanukovych noted.

Cabinet cancelled quotas for barley and maize export

Today the Government took a decision on quotas cancellation for barley and maize export. Yury Melnyk the Minister of agrarian policy of Ukraine told at the briefing in the cabinet, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

He noted that food reserve has been already formed. “Maybe the volume of it is not as we forecast, but today we have 350 thousand ton of bread grain in the food reserve, formed by the Agrarian fund,” the Minister said.

Melnyk also noted that situation on the grain market is stable.

President supports native language

President supports native language

It is important to support and promote the Ukrainian language, Victor Yushchenko said in an International Mother Language Day address to the nation on Wednesday,, president’s press office informs.

“It is our vital challenge to carry outwise andtolerant language policies to make our native language effective and uniting. We must always remember that the Ukrainian language is a language of our freedom and our state.”

The President said the Ukrainian nation “builds a country of fair opportunities and freedom.” He added that the governmentmust meet national, cultural and spiritual needs of Ukraine’s many minority ethnic groups.Hesaid it was incumbent on usto respect and speak Ukrainian, as well as to respect and support other languages spoken in Ukraine and contributing to our national wealth.

Yushchenkowished Ukrainians peace and tolerance.

Baloha meets Kazakh ambassador

Secretariat Chief of Staff Viktor Baloha met with Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Ukraine Amangeldy Zhumabayev on Wednesday, President’s press office informed.

The spoke aboutenergy and space cooperation, especially how to effectively fulfill the Ukrainian-Kazakh action plan for 2007-2008.

Mr. Zhumabayev said there were no political and economic misunderstandings between Kyiv and Astana and that Ukraine would become Kazakhstan’s fifth biggest trading partner in a few years.

BYuT members switched off the light in the VR

BYuT members switched off the light in the VR

15 people’s deputies of BYuT faction occupied electrical control unit of the parliament and switched off both the light in the Verkhovna Rada building and voting system. The first vice speaker Adam Martynyuk told, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

“In case 15 members of BYuT faction, who captured electrical control unit, hear me, I would like to remember that these actions are under criminal responsibility. And consent to brining to criminal account gives the VR. If you want to get this consent, you will get it,” Martynyuk said.

Moreover, he called the members of BYuT “to listen less to those who are leaders today, because leaders as always will stay aside. The leaders will wash their hands of it. But it might be not easy for you.”

After the light was switched off, Martynyuk proposed to vote in “manual mode”. Despite absence of light, the deputies of the Party of Region continue to block tribune.

Moreover, Martynyuk asked representatives of General Office of Public Prosecutor to fix violations of the parliament work to institute criminal proceedings against lawbreakers from BYuT.

Martynyuk is sure that parliamentary majority will support to brining to criminal account of these deputies.
