Opinion: Ukraine must dictate terms of relations with NATO

Political debates in
Ukraine are a part of a democratic process, and I believe the affairs are being
changed for better, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and
Eurasian Affairs David J. Kramer told.

Irrespective of some
disappointment by the Prime Minister or the President, they still secure
democracy in Ukraine, David J Kramer said.

As far as Ukraine’s EuroAtlantic
integration is concerned, David J Kramer stressed Ukraine should be in charge
of its future, but nobody else. In case Ukraine decides to deepen links with
NATO, the US will support it. We understand NATO’s support in Ukraine is low.
Both the President and the Prime Minister aired their decisions to promote
informational campaign for the society to become aware of Ukraine’s relations
with NATO. It is obvious that Ukraine will dictate terms of relations with NATO
and nobody intends to interfere in the process, David J Kramer said.

Socialists revealed Yushchenko’s plan

The socialistic Party of Ukraine is convinced that the Secretariat of the President tries to create joint opposition in the Verkhovna Rada in order to destabilize the situation in the country. The press service of the SPU spread the correspondent statement of the SPU.

The SPU considers that statements of the people’s deputies Yulia Tymoshenko and Vyacheslav Kyrylenko “On joint oppositional activity in the Parliamentary” is “practical implementation of the program of destabilization of political situation, managed by the Secretariat of the President of Ukraine, the constituent part of which is to press on the Parliament by forces of oppositional deputies.”

The socialists consider that the true reason of statement “On joint oppositional activity in the Parliament” is a wish to cancel changes in the Constitution and to get the dismissal of the Parliament.

The SPU warns the society about risky character of acts of those who calls upon confrontation, destabilization and so called “spring attack”
