Viktor Yanukovych and Serhiy Bubka discuss preparation of the Ukrainian sportsmen for the Olympic Games

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych met with the President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Serhiy Bubka, “Cabinet press office” informs..

The meeting concerned preparation of the Ukrainian sportsmen for the Olympic, Para-Olympic and Deafolympic Games.

Serhiy Bubka expressed his gratitude to the Government for supporting the development of physical culture and sport. According to him, in 2007 the sports financing has been increased by 50% as compared with the previous year.

In his turn, the Head of Ukrainian Government noted that the National Olympic Committee sets a task to prepare Ukrainian sportsmen for the Olympic Games and he can rely on the Government’s support.

Viktor Yanukovych and Serhiy Bubka have discussed in detail measures on providing proper conditions for preparation of sportsmen for the Olympic Games. In particular, repair of sport lodges, inventory purchase, building sport center networks for children and youth.

During the meeting Viktor Yanukovych and Serhiy Bubka exchanged their opinions on social provision of sportsmen and increase of grants for prize-winners and winners of the Olympic Games.

The President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Serhiy Bubka informed the Prime Minister that the next sitting of the Organizational Committee concerning preparation and participation of the Ukrainian sportsmen in the Olympic Games is slated for February 2, 2007 with the assistance of the Honorary President of the International Olympic Committee Juan Antonia Samaranch.

“Energoatom” to reduce violations at Nuclear Power Station

National nuclear energy company “Energoatom” plans to reduce number of violations at electric power stations. Andry Derkach the president of “Energoatom” told during the meeting, where reasons and quantitative results of violations in nuclear power units in 2006 were discussed.

“This year there won’t be such number of violations fixed last years. We will increase responsibility for reliable and secure work of power units both on administrative and stuff levels,” Derkach said.

In the scope of the meeting, reasons of breakdowns of equipment at Nuclear Power Station in 2006 were discussed. Number of decisions was made concerning security increase of power units.

Moreover there was noted the necessity of demands increase to inspectorial staff who is responsible for nuclear security, and consequently their salary growth.

Ukraine faces unemployment

As of January 1, 2007,
the State Job Service has registered 800,000 Ukrainians, seeking job, the State
Statistics Committee’s press service told.

The highest unemployment
level was registered in the Ternopil region (5.3%), and the lowest one in Kyiv
(0.4%).

In December 2006, the
Government decided to allocate 138.4 mln UAH to support unemployed Ukrainians.
The relief was distributed among 550,500 Ukrainians, 251 UAH for each.

Kyiv mayor to set to gambling industry in Kyiv

The Kyiv city state administration decided to set to gambling
industry in Kyiv, the mayor Leonid Chernovetsky said at a roundtable.

“We will introduce into legal practice activity of the
gambling industry and fight against illegal placement of slot-machines in the
city,” he said.

According to Chernovetsky, for the purpose of sorting
activity of gambling industry and reducing its negative influence on national
morale the Kyiv city state administration have decreed for the first time to
license conditions of maintenance of totalizators and gambling institutions in
Kyiv.

“These measures will finally introduce order in the
sphere of gambling industry and will systematize location of gambling
institutions in the capital,” Chernovetsky said.

SBU: Tax administration is up to its eyes in corruption

Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) notes high level of
corruption on the State tax administration. Press secretary of SNU chief Maryna
Ostapenko told Wednesday at a briefing.

According to her, SBU repeatedly informs governing body
of the tax administration to take urgent measures to fight corruption.
Ostapenko underlined that the most violation are fixed in the sphere of compensation
of VAT.

Ostapenko
informed that SBU department of Kyiv discovered facts of official forgery and
negligence in actions of official of State tax Inspection in Pechersky district
in Kyiv, who contributed to groundless compensation of VAT in the amount of
about UAH 1 million to one Ltd. Company. On the basis of the materials of SBU
the Office of Public Prosecutor of Kyiv instituted proceedings against official
of tax administration.

She also reported that SBU department in
Ivano-Fransivsk regions fined the deputy chief of control department of the
state tax inspection of Tismenetsky district for giving illegal advantages to an
entrepreneur during transfer of VAT sums on his account.

In general, she noted, “the level of corruption really
exceeds all norms in all state bodies and institutions. Ostapenko underscored
that President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko set clear task to SBU as regards fight
against corruption, which threatens national security of Ukraine.

At the same time she noted that the level of
corruption in the Security Service is the least among bodies of the state power.

Government takes measures to preserve crops

At the session of the
Cabinet of Ministers, Prime Ministers Viktor Yanukovych
stressed that weather conditions force agro-industrial workers to take
immediate and not ordinary measures to preserve harvest and get necessary
amounts of agricultural products, Cabinet press office reported.

“We should make every effort to retain winter
crops and carry out qualitative preparing for spring harvest time,” Viktor Yanukovych emphasized.

We should prepare the list
of measures to provide agro-industrial complex with necessary amount of fuel
and lubricants, fertilizers and pest-killers, as Head of the Government
admitted. The warming has led to the situation when we should take immediate
actions to preserve the harvest of 2007.

Donetsk struggles against media-pirates

Donetsk struggles against media-pirates

39 054 infringing CDs, seized from outlets of the
region, were destroyed at the Donetsk chemical plant.

Serhiy Nalyvaiko, chief state inspector on
intellectual property, informed that the action is aimed to demonstrate to sellers
of pirate production that their goods are destroyed, but not returned on counters.

According to him, the destroyed disks were seized from
outlets, which were not registered and did not have license.

“Mainly, these disks are from Russia,” Nalyvaiko said.
He also noted that grinded CDs are used for making a product for blasting
operations.

Nalyvaiko specified that for the year 2006 his
department has conducted 26 inspections. As a result, 39 054 items of infringing
CDs were seized to the sum of 432.8 ths hryvnias. Sum of fines made 7180
hryvnias.

Yanukovych to leave for Davos

Yanukovych to leave for Davos

The Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych will be the head of Investment committee created under the Cabinet of Ukraine. The vice Prime Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk told today at the briefing in the Cabinet, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

He noted that Yanukovych will leave for Davos to meet with “leading economists of the world” not only as the Prime Minister but also as the head of the investment committee.

According to Tabachnyk, work of the investment committee should be aimed at improvement of Investment legislation and at creation of investment climate in the country.

“Investment protection is one of the objectives of the national policy of the Cabinet of Ukraine…Creation of such committee is political, economic and positive sign and signal for investors. Their work will be supported on the high level,” he noted.

The vice Prime Minister said that Investment committee will be advisory- deliberative body. “It does not limit any investor to work within the legislation only through the committee,” Tabachnyk explained.
