Ukraine to adapt its laws to European legislation

Adaptation of Ukraine’s legislation to legislation of the European Union is one of key issues of the new Agreement on partnership and cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, discussion and consideration of which will start at the beginning of the next year. Chairman of EU Representative Office in Ukraine Ian Boag told Tuesday during the meeting with Ukraine’s Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovich. 

Mr Boag discussed with the Justice Minister expediency of holding roundtables with representatives of deputies’ factions of the Verkhovna Rada with participation of representatives of the European commission. According to the ambassador, such meetings can help informing deputies and delivering experience in the sphere of harmonization of national legislation with the European one.

In his turn, Lavrynovich assured the representative of the European commission that Ukraine has all necessary instruments fro adaptation of the Ukrainian legislation, what is included in the Agreement on partnership and cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, as well as in the Action Plan of European neighbouring policy.

EU Energy Commissioner to visit Ukraine in December

EU Energy Commissioner to visit Ukraine in December

EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs confirmed his intention to come to Ukraine on an official visit on December 21. He confirmed this during a meeting with Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Vitaliy Haiduk in Brussels, “Cabinet press office” reported.

The meeting dealt with cooperation directions in the energy sphere, particularly nuclear safety and nuclear energy, the coal industry and cooperation in oil and gas infrastructure projects.

Vitaliy Haiduk listed problems, which Ukrainian operators of electric power transmission lines are faced while accessing the EU electricity market. He urged to synchronize European and Ukrainian electric power systems.

During his visit to Ukraine Mr Piebalgs will take part in opening a regional metrological center in the town of Boyarka, Kyiv region.

In an interview for Channel One, 1+1 and Inter to mark the second anniversary of the Orange Revolution, Victor Yushchenko said, “The Orange Revolution and Ukraine have achieved colossal national results, which, like all historic phenomena, can only be appreciated several years later.”  

The President said Ukraine was “profoundly different from the country it was three years ago.”

“Millions of people contributed to this change. Their exploit stunned the whole world. That was the consolidation that very few nations and countries have experienced and witnessed,” he said.

When asked how he would celebrate tomorrow’s Freedom Day, Yushchenko said he wanted to remember those events with his “Maidan comrades.”

Ukraine to host international roundtable on rights of migrants

Ukraine to host international roundtable on rights of migrants

An international roundtable on rights of migrants and refugees, readmission and national minorities will be held in Kyiv on November 22 and 23, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Andriy Deshchytsia told Tuesday at a news briefing.

The event is organized by the International Organization for Migration with assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the State Committee for Nationalities and Migration.

The event will be attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Mykola Maimeskul, Chairman of the State Committee for Nationalities and Migration Serhiy Rudyk, Head of the European Commission Delegation to Ukraine Ian Boag and Head of the IOM Mission to Ukraine Jeffrey Labovitz.

Our Ukraine loses its supporters

Council of the Severodonetsk city organization of Our Ukraine party unanimously decided to leave the party in full composition of the organization as an act of support of Mykola Katerynchuk, former member of the party council. Chairman of Luhanks regional department of the Committee of voters of Ukraine Oleksiy Svetikov told Tuesday.

The initiative of leaving belongs to the delegate of the latest congress of the Our Ukraine party Yuri Dymnich and the chairman of the council of the city organization Calery Sekira. Final decision of the council must be approved by a conference of the Severodonetsk city organization of the Our Ukraine party.

Tymoshenko went to Brussels to address Europarliament

Leader of the opposition bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko went to Brussels on Tuesday to meet with representatives of the European Union and Europarliament.

Tymoshenko plans to meet with European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Benita Ferrero-Waldner and EU High Representative Javier Solana.

BYuT leader will also hold a meeting with the head of socialists group of the EU parliament Martin Shults and the president of European people’s party Wilfred Martens.

During her visit, Tymoshenko will address the meeting in the European policy center on “Ukraine, will future remain orange?”

In addition, Tymoshenko will make a speech on a special session of EU delegation in the committee on international cooperation between Ukraine and the EU.

Ukraine’s President to address the Ukrainian people

Tomorrow President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko will address the Ukrainian people on the occasion of the anniversary of the “orange” revolution, President’s aid Taras Stetskiv reported.

In response to the question if any other actions with the participation of the President have been planned, Stetskiv said Yushchenko will come to Maydan square with former “brothers in arm”.

According to him, “orange” revolution appeared to be the most outstanding episode in their lives. “This is new stage in Ukraine’s life,” Stetskiv said. According to him, Ukraine made its civilizational choice for the sake of European valuables, what was the main value of the revolution.

Russia to continue checking Ukrainian meat and dairy enterprises

The Russian and Ukrainian sides agreed on continuing checking Ukrainian dairy and meat enterprises by Russian vet experts in November – December to resume exports of their produce to Russia, Ukrainian Minister for Agrarian Policy Yuriy Melnyk said, Cabinet press office reported.

Experts of the Russian Federal Agency of Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (RosSelkhozNadzor) have already inspected 19 packing plants and authorized beef export only by two of them.

According to Agrarian Policy Minister Yuriy Melnyk, Russia has permitted dairy exports to six Ukrainian enterprises.

The RosSelkhozNadzor has authorized beef exports to Russia from the KonotopMyaso (Sumy) and the Vatutinsky Packing Plant (Cherkasy) since November 6.

The ban on Ukrainian animal product imports to Russia was introduced on January 20, 2006. Experts predicted monthly damages at 50 to 60 M. USD in the dairy industry and 12 to 15 M. USD in the meat processing industry.
