Cherkasy pensioner was a pimp

A pensioner, 70 has been arrested in Cherkasy. Police proved he was engaged in pimp’s affairs, Ivan Afanas’yev, a chief of Cherkasy Counter-Trafficking in Persons Department has revealed Wednesday at a press conference.

Having noticed the prostitutes prohibited “to stay” near a sauna, enterprising old man proposed them his services – to stay and there and to find clients. When a client had been found the old man brought a prostitute to him.

Afanas’yev stressed that every prostitute returned him $12. Being interrogated, he confessed the fact and declared that he did not know that “to find a client for a prostitute is prohibited by the Law.” Moreover, he accused the policemen of that they did not warn him about it.

Evpatoria police disclosed bribetaking

Evpatoria police has detained two woman-workers of the City Sanitary-and-epidemiologic Station (SES). The doctors demanded bribes fro issuing trade permissions, the PR Department of the General Department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine in Crimea informed.

Police officers managed to prove seven cases of bribetaking ($20 and more) committed by the SES officials, Assistant Chief of Evpatoria Police Department Vyacheslav Pashkevich told. The women were busted taking $200-bribe.

The investigation is underway. Pashkevich reported also that since the beginning of the year, the law enforcement agencies have registered twelve bribetaking cases.

Ukraine’s Minister of Defence held a briefing in Tirana

Ukraine will be represented in the HQ of the SEEBRIG multinational brigade since the next year, Defence Minister of Ukraine Anatoly Hrytsenko has revealed it Wednesday in a briefing held in a break of a plenary session of the SEE Council of Defence Ministers.

“I have submitted a proposal on consideration of the opportunity for our officers to serve in HQ SEEBRIG,” said Ukrainian Defence Minister.

According to his belief, such service will promote better coordination within joint active missions. Minister Hrytsenko outlined: “A decision on participation in a certain mission will be passed by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the President and the Cabinet. My functions as a minister are to provide for capability and readiness of our officers to the joint operations.”

Ukrainian officers to study in US military colleges

Ukrainian Defense Minister Anatoly Hrytsenko met with US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld in Tirana, Albania on a visit there to attend a session of the Council of South – East European Defense Ministers, Cabinet’s press office reported.

According to the Defense Ministry’s press service, the meeting dealt with internal political situation in Ukraine, Ukraine – NATO and Ukraine – USA relations, as well as Ukrainian – American military cooperation, in particular, coordination of joint actions in peacekeeping operations.

The Ukrainian Defense Minister and the US Secretary of Defense agreed upon increasing the number of Ukrainian officers to study in US military colleges. Anatoly Hrytsenko stated Ukraine’s inevitable course for NATO and reformation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Presently, eight officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces study in US military colleges.

Ukraine’s President honors Babyn Yar victims

Victor Yushchenko and his wife have honored the Babyn Yar victims by placing candles at the Babyn Yar memorial, President’s press office reported.

Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, Verkhovna Rada Speaker Oleksandr Moroz, Israeli President Moshe Katsav, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic and other officials as well as diplomats and envoys representing Belgium, Great Britain, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Hungary, Finland, France, Georgia, Poland and the United States of America attended the ceremony.

They observed one minute of silence. Church leaders prayed for the dead.

Donetsk regional tax officials stole a reclamation project

Donetsk regional tax officials stole a reclamation project

Donetsk Environmental Prosecutor’s Office has instituted legal proceeding against tax officials. Two tax inspection officials and a tax manager illegally confiscated a reclamation project from a communal property.

Donetsk State Service Department Countering Economic Crimes disclosed facts of power abuse committed by the tax officials of a collective agrarian enterprise.

As the report says, the infringers illegally issued permission on selling of reclamation project belonged to an enterprise, which, in fact, had to be handed over for communal property of a certain city council. As a result of this violation, the country was caused damaged in the amount of about $1 million.

The criminal case has been instituted according to part three, article 365 of the Penal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power).

“The Our Ukraine will stand for the positions of the Pact that had been signed by politicians during the roundtable talks initiated by the Ukrainian President. The presence of the clauses of the Pact in a coalition agreement is a matter of principle for us. Politicians must bear responsibility for what they have promised to Ukrainians,” the head of the Information department of the Our Ukraine party Tetyana Mokridi told the Razom site.

Mokridi also informed that this issue had been discussed at the meeting of the political council of the Our Ukraine bloc yesterday.

“The negotiation process on the formation of a national unity coalition was under discussion during the meeting of the political council of Our Ukraine. It was remarked that the last shoot forward would be made on Thursday. It is planned to complete the text of the coalition agreement and to give it to the political leaders for the last approval,” Mokridi stated.

Ukaine’s Minister of Defence takes part in SEE Council fo Defence Ministers session

Ukraine’s Defence Minister Hrytsenko takes part in a session of the South-Eastern European Council of Defence Ministers held in Tirana (Albania). Ukrainian delegation headed by Minister Hrytsenko arrived yesterday in Albania.

The defence departments heads of Italy, Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovenia, Macedonia, Croatia and the USA are t take part in the session. As special invited guests, Serbian, Montenegrin, Bosnian and Herzegovina Defence Ministers participate in the event. The Moldovan Defence Minister is to present as an observer.

Before the official plenary session, Ukraine’s Hrytsenko and the US Donald H. Ramsfeld are to hold a scheduled meeting.

In the course of the discussion, the participants are to address the issues related to the security in the region, peacekeeping operations and pressing questions of the military cooperation. The main attention will be focused on the results of South-Eastern European (SEE) multinational peacekeeping forces’ mission in Afghanistan, issues connected with SEE countries-NATO members’ support for SEE-countries which are not NATO members regarding future accession into the North Atlantic Alliance, and the issue on granting an observer-status in the SEE Council of Ministers to Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
