On May 27, Feodosiya port hosted US transport “Advantage.” The ship carried engineering equipment and building materials for reconstruction of Starokrymsky training ground of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The local residents and CPU, SDPU (o), Vitrenko’s Bloc activists have launched protest action and blocked the cargo in the port.

Ukraine’s Defence Ministry explained that “Advantage” was an advanced detachment making necessary arrangements for “Sea Breeze-2006” military exercise. The event has been scheduled last year and the local authorities might have known about it. Forty countries have been invited to take part ion the exercises. The US delegation has not yet given permission of the parliament but it is a question of time, Defence Ministry assures. It is going to be given in the nearest time.

"WInd farms are inexpedient project for Ukraine"

Energoatom President Nedashkovsky: "WInd farms are inexpedient project for Ukraine"

Energoatom President Yuri Nedashkovsky reckons the construction of wind farms is rather inexpedient project for Ukraine. He has revealed it Tusday at the press conference.

“I’d call it an economic folly,” commented Nedashkovsky.

According to him, the construction of power plants of that kind does not warrant itself in Ukraine and demands supporting thermoelectric power stations because “it is impossible to guarantee constant wind (1million wind kwh needs to be provided with 1 million thermal kwh.)”

German wind farms generate only 4% out of the total amount of the electric power, Nedashkovsky mentioned.

“I think it is a dead-end for Ukraine,” concluded Energoatom President.

President of Ukraine pays a working visit to Donetsk City

Chief of Staff Oleh Rybachuk, Coal Minister Victor Topolov, Industrial Minister Volodymyr Shandra, and Energy Minister Ivan Plachkov accompany the President Yushchenko in his trip.

Victor Yushchenko has introduced Volodymyr Lohvinenko, newly appointed Donetsk Governor, to the regional officials, the president press office informs.

Chief of Staff Oleh Rybachuk recited a decree to appoint Lohvinenko the governor.

The President then thanked ex-governor Vadym Chuprun for his work. He said Chuprun had been appointed in hard economic and political times but managed to cooperate with all the regional parties and industrial directors.

Speaking before the audience, Victor Yushchenko has said it was vital to introduce administrative reform in Ukraine.

“Each square meter of the territory should be profitable, and local governments are responsible for that,” he said, when explaining the essence of fiscal changes.

The Head of State then urgedthe governmenttoprofoundly change the system of budget planning in order to make the regions financially self-sufficient.

“Territorial budgets must never follow the central budget but the other way round,” he opined, characterizing this approach as European.

The President said the existing system of local self-government was not effective.

“It is irrational to concentrate so many resources in the center, leaving almost nothing for the regions,” he said, pointing out that such disproportions gave rise to budget schemes and manipulations.

Then he stated that this reform would consolidate all the regions of Ukraine: “I am convinced we have partners in every region to carry out these new policies.”

Our Ukraine Bloc condemns RF State Duma' statement on Crimea

Our Ukraine Bloc condemns RF State Duma’ statement on Crimea

Our Ukraine Bloc condemns populist statements voiced by RF State Duma regarding the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

“The supreme legislative body of Russia should not pass political decisions based upon historical events traced back 250 years. We are convinced that current international relations must take into the account of the political situation of the present moment not the agreements of the Age of Enlightenment or other Ages,” emphasises the OU statement.

Our Ukraine Bloc opines that Kuchuk-Kainardzhijsk Treaty of 1774 was concluded between Russian and Ottoman Empires, both states ended long ago. Thereby, such interpretations of Russian politicians may provoke Ukrainian radical political forces and cause their demand to restore Ukraine within the Kievan Rus measures (Moscow and Kuban included).

Our Ukraine Bloc expresses a confidence that the international relations must be built upon admitted principle of sovereignty and inviolability of territorial integrity of all countries of the world. “We stand for development of friendship and partnership between Russia and Ukraine, particularly for continuation of the frontier delimitation process,” the statement says.

The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine refused to comment on the Duma’s proposal. “We do not reckon it is worth to be commented on,” said Vasyl Filipchuk, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson.

Ex-Minister of Ukraine Yermilov on gas talks with Turkmenistan

Ex-Minister of Ukraine Yermilov on gas talks with Turkmenistan

Ex-Minister of Fuel and Energy Serhiy Yermilov does not rule out that since the beginning of July, Ukrgasenergo will have substituted Naftogaz and become the main gas provider for Ukrainian consumers. He revealed it in Era Radio live broadcasting.

“I think every possible effort is aimed at substitution of Naftogaz by Ukrgasenergo in all contracts before July 1. It will lead to a loss of a part of the independence (Ukrgasenergo is a joint Ukrainian-Russian venture – edit),” mentions Yermilov. He also opines that the current government of Ukraine and especially Fuel and Energy Ministry of Ukraine are interested parts of this affair.

Yermilov expresses a confidence that Ukraine currently has lost Turkmen gas market in fact. He explains it by ineffectual talks with Turkmenistan and actually breakdown of Turkmen President Niyazov’s visit to Ukraine which had meant failure of new long-term gas supply agreement signing as well. “I suppose the Fuel and Energy Ministry is involved in it,” noted Yermilov.

Ex-Minister Yermilov stated the necessity of immediate participation of the President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko in the negotiations with Turkmen President Niyazov.
