"I have voted against the break because I want to work"

Akhmetov: "I have voted against the break because I want to work"

Rinat Akhmetov is not contented with the decision of the VR majority to make a break till June 7.

“I have voted against the break because I want to work,” stresses Akhmetov.

He also voiced his negative attitude toward the VR clashes which he had to witness on Tuesday when Oleksandr Turchinov on behalf of BYuT had voiced the opinion on the number of the parliamentary committees and commissions. “I am a concessive man, rather constructive one. When someone shouts I cannot comprehend a plot,” mentioned Akhmetov.

In response to the question whether he is going to participate in clashes, Rinat Leonidovych Akhmetov answered: “I have gone in for boxing for seven years. Please, bear it mind.”

He also notes that PR must take part in formation of the Cabinet. “It is correct that we should form the coalition as we are the winners of the election-2006,” said Akhmetov.

In case of OU-BYuT-SPU coalition, PR will proper execute its work being in the opposition, Akhmetov opines.

In conclusion Rinat Akhmetov stated that he has been commissioned to work out draft bills “aimed at economic development.”

May 25, Ukraine and Georgia voiced fresh criticism of the CIS at a meeting in Tajikistan of the international organization, RFE/Rl informed.

Ukraine’s Deputy PM Yuriy Melnik called for urgent reforms of the CIS, and for it to set “clear priorities.”

However, he said Ukraine is not considering leaving the grouping of post-Soviet states at present.

Georgian State Minister Giorgi Baramidze said President Mikheil Saakashvili had asked his government to examine the value of the country remaining in the CIS, but he stressed that no decision has yet been made.

Ukrainian and Georgian officials claim the CIS is dominated by Russia and is not doing enough to defend the interests of other countries.

Ukraine illegally deported Uzbeks

Ukraine illegally deported Uzbeks

Having deported Uzbek citizens, Ukraine violated the legal norms. The Chairman of the State Committee of Ukraine on Nationalities and Migration Serhiy Rudik voiced this point at the seminar “The Current State and Prospects of Development of the Migration Service of Ukraine” held today.

“The deportation of Uzbeks was illegal, and this matter has been still pressing one for four months. Nobody expected then that the Uzbeks would have been deported before the term of the appeal of a decision expired,” said Rudik.

Several organisations on human rights urge the agencies of the government and the President of Ukraine personally to voice a legal interpretation of the deportation of the Uzbek citizens, the Chairman of the State Committee of Ukraine on Nationalities and Migration Serhiy Rudik told.

According to him, the lack of the coordination between SBU, Interior Ministry, frontier guards and his Committee caused such violation of the rules.

He stresses that the consultative body should be formed in order to avoid such incidents in the future. He also emphasizes that the organisations on human rights should be involved in such body’s work because they could provide legal assistance.

Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has officially resigned

Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has officially resigned

The Ukrainian government headed by Yuri Yekhanurov has officially resigned after the newly elected Parliament started its first session on Thursday.

But Yekhanurov’s cabinet will remain in force until the Verkhovna Rada forms a new government, which should happen within the next 60 days, according to the Ukrainian Constitution .

The Constitution says parliament must first agree on a parliamentary coalition in the next 30 days, and then put forward a candidate for the posts of PM and cabinet members for the president’s consideration. If parliament fails to form a coalition and does not put forward candidates within the time limit, President Victor Yushchenko has a right to dismiss the Rada and to call new elections.
