The fact of cruel treatment of animals in Kharkiv, Ukraine

The sack full of dead cats has been found in one of the Kharkiv squares. It is still unknown who has committed this cruelty and why. The regional animal protection society states that in site of the Act of Ukraine on Animal Protection from Cruel Treatment, this fact will remain undisclosed as the rest of such cases.

Oleh Bondarenko, the Chairman of Kharkiv Animal Protection Society tells that it is not been the first time when mass murders of animal have been practised in the city. Mainly the victims are dogs and cats, sometimes they are found dead near the city pet-markets.

According to the Act of Ukraine, cruel treatment of animals is punished by $50 fine.

Naftogaz seeks for sources to pay its debt

Naftogaz intends to attract credits in order to meet the commitments to natural gas payment for RosUkrEnrgo A.G., Fuel and Energy Minister Ivan Plachkov told.

“The National Joint-Stock Company will make loan on the best terms one proposes,” mentioned the Minister today in Kyiv.

He found difficulties to answer the question whether the tender would select a bank-creditor.

According to Plachkov, the Finance Ministry and NJSC Naftogaz have already settled the issue of the first $60 million for payment to RosUkrEnergo. The details were not revealed by the Minister Plachkov.

“I am confident that the new government with participation of our political force will be able to establish order in spite of any heritage we get – either tariffs increase or mercedeses, it does not matter,” stressed Timoshenko.

Besides, she added that having left the PM office for the first time, she had handed down the folding bed and “great number of resolved social problems to Yuri Yekhanurov.”

“Now, I will inherit Mercedes, and it means that the power becomes richer,” concluded Yulia Volodymirivna.

Tymoshenko: Composition of the coalition may be changed

In case if participants of the coalition do not support candidature of Yulia Tymoshenko on the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine, the composition of the coalition will be changed, as Tymoshenko declared on the press conference, ForUm’s correspondent reported.

“If the Parliament does not swear in my candidature as Prime Minister of Ukraine because some coalition’s deputies will not vote for me, then, in accordance with article 81 of Constitution of Ukraine on imperative mandate, these deputies will be replaced by others, who share views of the coalition, and the voting will be held again,” said Tymoshenko.

In his turn, SPU leader Oleksandr Moroz noted that “the Constitution does not provide for imperative mandate. Though, it does not prohibit it…Unfortunately, such variant is possible, when deputies have to vote in accordance with the decision of their faction.”

Ukrainian delegation participates at EBRD Assembly

At the Annual Assembly of the Board EBRD Governors, the idea to form a coordination council has got support form the EBRD officials. Initially the idea was proposed by Ukraine.

The Council is to be aimed at consolidation of cooperation between the government of Ukraine and EBRD and Ukraine’s reaching the EBRD strategy goals and implementation of the Cooperation Program for 2005-2006.

The Coordination Council would focus on the wide range of pressing cooperation matters. Economics Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk heads the Ukrainian delegation to the Annual Assembly of the Board of Governors of the EBRD, which winds up on Tuesday.

Yushchenko bade his farewell to Herbst

Today Victor Yushchenko has met with U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst, who has been working in our country since 2003 but will soon assume another post.

The Head of State thanked Mr. Herbst for making a considerable contribution to the development of strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States and for improving economic and investment cooperation.

They also discussed George Bush’s future visit to Ukraine, President’s press office reported.

BYuT and SPU signed draft agreement on coalition

BYuT and SPU signed draft agreement on coalition

Today representatives of the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko and Socialist Party of Ukraine have signed the draft agreement on formation of democratic coalition of three forces, ForUm’s correspondent informed.

As SPU leader Oleksandr Moroz noted, the draft agreement is a structural document consisting of four parts. The main positions of it have been registered and adjusted by coalition’s participants.

In her turn, Yulia Tymoshenko noted that the signing of the document meant that participants of the coalition passed to the next stage of its formation.

Additionally, Tymoshenko noted that yesterday she talked to the President and they agreed to conduct a meeting between the OU bloc, BYuT and SPU tomorrow after the first session of the Verkhovna Rada of the fifth convocation.

According to Yulia Tymoshenko, her bloc insists on coalition between three political forces only and excludes participation of Party of Regions.

Russian language got regional status in Dnipropetrovs’k

Dnipropetrovs’k City Council by majority of votes has given a status of regional language to Russian. PR, CPU, NE TAK! Bloc, People’s Opposition by Natalya Vitrenko and a part of the Lazarenko Bloc voted for this resolution and BYuT along with NSNU and Dnipropetrovs’k City Chairman Ivan Kulychenko voted against it.

Ivan Kulychenko tried to convince the Council members in impossibility to implement such resolution but failed to prove it.
