The Foreign Minister of New Zealand will visit Ukraine

April 19-21, Foreign Minister of New Zealand Winston Peters will pay official visit to Ukraine.

In the course of the visit, Mr. Peters is to meet President Victor Yushchenko, the First Vice-Speaker Adam Martynyuk and the First Vice-PM Stanislav Stashevsky.

According to the agenda, the foreign diplomat will hold negotiations with his Ukrainian counterpart Tarasyuk.

Mr. Peters will place a wreath on the Holodomor monument.

The Hemodialysis Centre launches work in Sumy

Ukraine’s Health Minister Yuri Polyachenko took part in the opening ceremony of the Hemodialysis Centre in Sumy, the Ministry’s press service informs.

According to the plan, the State Budget funds will be spent on purchases of 19 artificial kidneys for the haemodialysis centres all over the country. The total amount of funds spent on haemodialysis equipment and medicines for patients suffering from renal insufficiency makes $2.132 million.

EX-Head of the Security Service of Ukraine to be interrogated in the court

Ukraine’s General Office of Public Prosecutor undertakes the necessary investigations concerning the “bugging” of the journalist Oleksandr Korchinsky during the illegal detecting operation conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine.

April 11, the special case investigator issued the resolution on compulsory delivery of ex-Head of SBU Oleksandr Turchinov and his ex-deputy Andriy Kozhemyakin as witnesses of this case, the Prosecutor’s press office informs.

Turchinov is in the hospital now and when he will be discharged from it he will have been invited to the examination in the court. Both of them, Kozhemyakin and Turchinov are just witnesses, the arrest and detention are out of question, the Prosecutor’s Office specifies.

If the law enforcement agencies arrest Turchinov, Yulia Timoshenko will wipe an investigatory isolation ward off the face of the earth. That was her personal response to this information.

Yulia Timoshenko pledges to back the President Yushchenko again

BYuT leader Yulia Timoshenko confirms her readiness to back the President Yushchenko in the presidential election-2009 for the sake of coalition stability. She has revealed it at the press conference today.

“If we are capable to create the coalition of the democratic coalition today I will back the President Yushchenko in presidential election-2009 again for the sake of stability of the coalition,” said Timoshenko. “I backed him once, I have backed him twice, I would back him for the third time but it is prohibited by the Constitution of Ukraine,” said Timoshenko.

She told she had told everything depending on her and her political force to stabilize “the coalition triangle.”

The World Bank to loan $500-600 million for Ukraine’s energy saving projects

The World Bank is ready to give Ukraine $250-300 million a year in 2006 and 2007 to finance energy saving projects in Ukraine, Paul Bermingham, the World Bank country director for Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova, said in an interview with the Economicheskiye Izvestia newspaper, Interfax-Ukraine informed.

It is necessary to introduce energy saving technologies more aggressively in Ukraine, and the World Bank is ready to allot $250-300 million in 2006 and 2007 respectively, he said.

However, he said there was an urgent need to encourage companies to invest in energy saving, as the finance from international organizations is “a drop in the ocean.”

Timoshenko claims to debar Poroshenko from coalition negotiations

Today BYuT leader Yulia Timoshenko alleges that PM Yekhanurov, ex-Secretary of NSDCU Petro Poroshenko and ex-leader of OU faction Mykola Martynenko want to prevent the coalition formation and delay this process.

She calls President Yushchenko to dismiss above-mentioned persons and to take this process under his control and responsibility.

“We will not let the persons associated with such politicians as Yekhanurov, Poroshenko and Martynenko destroy the creation of the democratic forces coalition. Neither illegal criminal cases nor arrests will force us to provoke a confrontation,” stressed Timoshenko at the press conference.

She also reminds that ByuT will insist on its right to nominate the candidate for the premiership and to form the Cabinet of Ukraine.

“We will stand firm for Oleksandr Moroz to take the chair of the VR Speaker,” mentioned Timoshenko adding the Party of Regions may aspire to the Counting Chamber’s Head.

President of Ukraine Yushchenko to visit Latvia

April 27-28, President Victor Yushchenko will pay official visit to Latvia, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vasyl Filipchuk told Tuesday.

“This visit will be a signal of further development and intensification of the bilateral political and social-economic ties between tow countries. Latvia is our reliable partner within the Euro and Atlantic integration,” stressed Filipchuk.

In the course of the visit, the wide range of bilateral documents is due to be inked.

May 2-5, President Yushchenko will take part in the conference which will be held in Vilnius.

First Lady of Ukraine helps asthma patients

Kateryna Yushchenko, Head of the Ukraine 3000 Supervisory Council, and Ukraine’s famous philanthropist Petro Bagriy, Ganza President, took part in a ceremony to present medicaments to patients with bronchial asthma.

Yuriy Polyachenko, Health Minister, Oleksandr Vozianov, President of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and Yuriy Feshchenko, President of Physiatry and Pulmonology Institute, attended the ceremony.

The medicaments will be distributed among children’s hospitals that take part in the Hospital to Hospital program and other pulmonology clinics, the president press office reported.

Kateryna Yushchenko said bronchial asthma had a serious impact on people’s life: they have to skip classes, cannot be physically active and find it difficult to communicate.

“If treated properly, they can enjoy a durable remission. These medicaments can considerably improve quality of life for asthma patients,” she said.

The President’s wife added thatthe governmentshould involve more philanthropists and businessmen in carrying out health policies.
