Akhmetov does not want to be Ukraine’s PM

On today’s press conference in Kyiv Rinat Akhmetov assured journalists that as a MP he would come to the Parliament and vote personally, not entrusting his voting card to anybody, ForUm’s correspondent reported.

“In the Parliament I will head committee on fight against organized crime,” Akhmetov joked and underlined that in the Verkhovna Rada he would “carry out his work and report on it before the society.”

Akhmetov also pointed out that “would not work in the government for sure,” and named himself an “exception”, as any other person would not refuse from the post of Prime Minister.

Speaking about wishful candidature for the PM post, Akhmetov named Victor Yanukovich, as “he has everything necessary for heading the Cabinet.”

Akhmetov underlined that the primary task for the Party of Regions is to create favourable investment climate and to increase economic growth. “Principles are more important for us, portfolios are the next stage.”

President of Ukraine was interviewed by Kommersant Vlast

President of Ukraine was interviewed by Kommersant Vlast

In an interview with Kommersant Vlast (Russia), Victor Yushchenko said economic relations between Ukraine and Moldova should be based on international rules, the press office of Ukraine’s President informed.

“When we receive a cargo, we must know its history. We do not want any contraband,” he said.

The President added that the current contraband rate was estimated at USD 200-250 mln and so “Ukraine’s budget loses about USD 100 mln every year.”

“So we decided to make our customs relations consistent with international norms and procedures,” he said, reiterating that Ukraine is responsible for observing these procedures.

The Head of State also said there was no economic blockade in Trans-dniester: “There is no blockade. There is a self-blockade, for they let some cargoes belonging to the Trans-dniester authorities go. They ‘filter’ interests. At the same time, myths about the blockade are being actively produced and some of these mythsare supported by Russia’s media.”

Mr. Yushchenko confirmed that Ukraine’s fundamental position in the Trans-dniester conflict was unchanged: “Ukraine believes that Moldova is a sovereignstate. By the way, Russia shares the same opinion. If so, we both agree that this country has a single customs territory.”
