Ukrainians want independent Ukraine

47% of Ukrainians stand for independent development of their country, Borys Salahakov the Director of All-Ukrainian Social Service told.

According to the recent poll, 25.5% citizens want Ukraine to create new union together with Russia and Belarus, 8.7% – for the former union with the majority of the ex-Soviet republics and 12.3% want to join the EU and NATO. The rest 6% give no answer.

The respondents were asked the question on the status of Russian language in Ukraine: 42.6% stand for the current situation, 20% of Ukrainians want Russian to be the official in the Russian-spoken regions of Ukraine, 28.8% – Russian must be the second state language. The rest 5.9% failed to answer the question. 4,000 respondents were asked, the possible error makes 5.9%.

Victor Yanukovich the leader of the Party of the Regions announces he will not withdraw his signature under the Memorandum on Cooperation and Mutual Understanding between power and the opposition.

“It makes no difference now. Nevertheless, our intention to unite all Ukraine really makes difference. The stability and unity of all Ukrainian people should be the first priorities of the President. He did not comprehend for the whole year,” said Yanukovich.

The Party of the Regions is the leader of the election campaign

All-Ukrainian Social Service published the results of regular public poll “Social and Political Orientation and Electoral Mood of Ukrainians on the Threshold of the Election Campaign.”

Judging by the results, if the election is held now the leader of the election rush would be the Party of the Regions – 22.7% in comparison with November’s 19.1%. The other participants take the following position:

BYuT – 15.7% (14% in November);

NSNU – 15.3% (8.4%)

SPU – 9.6% (10.3%)

Lytvyn’s Bloc – 8.8% (8.7%)

CPU – 7.8% (8.4%)

Ne Tak! Opposition bloc – 3.1%

PORA-PRP – 2.9%

Vitrenko’s Bloc – 2.9%

President Yushchenko vetoes law on state purchases

President Victor Yushchenko vetoed a Law on Changes to the Law on State Purchases of Goods, Works, and Services and Other Legal Acts of Ukraine, which had been approved on December 15, 2005, and delegated Economy Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk to present his remarks at a plenary session of the Verkhovna Rada.

Ukraine 3000 Foundation held tenders

On December 30, 2005, the Ukraine 3000 International Charitable Foundation conducted two tenders for Vayer Medtekhnika, Utas, TMS Ltd, N.Z. Tekhno, EkoSoft, Ukrtelemed, Vidkos and Akant to:

– buy medical equipment for neonatologic wards of children’s hospitals participating in the Hospital to Hospital Program;

– renovate family rooms at the Cancer Institute in Kyiv.

The winners will be publicly announced by the competition committee on January 14, 2006.

President Victor Yushchenko signed four laws, which had all been passed on December 22, 2005:

Law 3260-IV on Changes to the Law on Energy Saving;

Law 3268-IV on Changes to Article 37 of the Law on Foreign Economic Activity;

Law 3273-IV on Mortgage Bonds;

Law 3277-IV on Changes to the Law on Committees of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine .

Ukrainian Ambassador to Macedonia met Foreign Minister Mitreyva

Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva met Thursday with newly appointed ambassadors of Croatia and Ukraine to Macedonia, Ivan Kujundzic and Vitaly Moskalenko, the Agency of Information reports.
Ambassador Kujundzic pointed out the traditionally good relations and exceptional cooperation between Croatia and Macedonia, adding that his country would continue to enhance prior cooperation in the field of EU and NATO integration. Furthermore, Kujundzic emphasized that one of his main tasks would be further development of bilateral economic and commercial relations.
Ukrainian Ambassador Moskalenko conveyed greetings from country’s foreign minister Boris Tarasyuk on occasion of Macedonia’s EU candidate status. Moskalenko stressed that his engagement in Macedonia would focus on economic cooperation and implementation of the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.
Minister Mitreva wished the two ambassadors success in their work, emphasizing the principle of solidarity, friendship and cooperation in the relations with Croatia and Ukraine and invited again her colleagues, ministers Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic and Boris Tarastyuk, to visit the Republic of Macedonia.

Central Electoral Commission denies registration of three political parties

To these parties belong the Party of Rehabilitation of the People of Ukraine, the Party “Powerful Ukraine” and the Liberal – Democratic Party of Patriots of Ukraine.
 
The failure of money transfer by the Party of Rehabilitation of the People of Ukraine and the Party “Powerful Ukraine” caused the denial in registration. According to the law, the sum of money must be transferred to the special account of the CEC. The Liberal – Democratic Party of Patriots of Ukraine were denied for having their documents improperly executed . During the session, authorized persons in multi-mandate national constituency from the Civil Bloc PORA – PRO, the Green Party of Ukraine and the Communist Party of Ukraine were registered. The CEC also registered five initiative groups on holding a national referendum on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, CEA and NATO. Three other initiative groups were rejected.
