First Lady of Ukraine meets women ambassadors

Kateryna Yushchenko met with women ambassadors accredited to Ukraine. H.E. Mrs. L. Reinila of Finland, H.E. Mrs. N. Ben-Ami of Israel, H.E. Mrs. A.K. Shaharudin of Malaysia, H.E. Ms. A. Dann of Canada, and H.E. Mrs. L. de Torres Muga of Peru, who had presented her credentials to President Yushchenko yesterday, Nina Marchenko, Honorary Artist of Ukraine, and Halyna Tuftiba, People’s Actress of Ukraine took part in the meeting.

They discussed cultural cooperation, various cultural exchange programs and ways to conduct a conference on the role of women in modern society, inviting those women who have succeeded in different fields. They believeit is important tohold such meetings all around the country.

On November 9, President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko was drawn blood in accordance with the resolution of October 25 passed by the investigatory agency on the poisoning case of President of Ukraine.

The blood was drawn according to the world standards, the press secretary of President Irina Gerashchenko told.

Ukraine to share military equipment with Iraq

Anatoly Gritsenko, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, declared that the government is deciding about free transfer of superfluous military equipment to Iraq.

Gritsenko noted that such offer was received from Iraq’s Defense Minister. According to Gritsenko, Iraq needs it very much. The Minister said that according to the state program of Ukraine’s Armed Forces reformation, Ukraine would have three times more military equipment than needed.

Gritsenko informed that it is provided to transfer submachine guns and ammunition, binoculars, TNT blocks and motor vehicles.

The Minister noted that a lot of countries do the same. In particular, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Estonia and others have already transferred free military equipment to Iraq.

Victor Yanukovich Junior to represent youth division of Party of Regions

The glory of notorious father had disturbed Yanukovich since the presidential elections-2004 and the spitting image of the father decided to dive in the dark waters of politics. He has been delegated to the Central Department of Ukraine’s Regions Youth Union (SMRU) by the Party activists, deputy Head of Donetsk Regional Council Alexander Zaets reports.

Yanukovich Junior has announced his participation in the notable election campaign of his father. He also casually mentioned about his own realization of certain “youth projects.” But he had never been engaged in public politics, he stated.

For now none has defined yet what functions Yanukovich Junior fulfils. Anyway, the son of the former candidate is self-confident and mature for politics, he mentions.

As a reminder Victor Yanukovich was born in 1981.

Ukraine’s Defense Minister is proud of Ukrainian peacemakers

Anatoly Gritsenko, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense, is proud of Ukrainian peacemaking contingent, which fulfilled its mission in Iraq, as he declared during today’s press conference in Kyiv, ForUm’s correspondent inform.

Gritsenko underlined that “he is proud of the fact that our officers and generals solve such serious issues.”

The Minister considers, that “participation in peacemaking operation (Iraq, Liberia and Kosovo) gives an opportunity to the army to realize what it exists for. Those people, who serviced in these contingents, are the most professional elite of the Ukraine’s Armed Forces.”

Victor Yushchenko to visit France

Victor Yushchenko to visit France

On November 15-16, President Victor Yushchenko of Ukraine will be visiting the French Republic to meet with President Jacque Chirac and Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin.

At the French Institute of International Relations, the Head of State is expected to deliver a speech for French politicians, parliamentarians, scholars and journalists. He will then meet with chairmen of France’s leading energy companies.

Yushchenko will also make a speech at a UNESCO plenary meeting to mark its 60th anniversary.

The President is going to be exclusively interviewed by several French media.

Ukraine’s government to set import quotas on printed output

People’s deputy Vladimir Tsibul’ko offers Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to set import quotas on printed output, books in particular, as stated in registered draft bill about state import control, defense of competition and consumer rights on the Ukraine’s printed output market.

The draft bill provides to set import quotas on books and to reduce them with the purpose of defense and sale promotion of Ukrainian producers of printed output.

The explanatory note to the document reads that more than 90% of the Ukrainian book market is occupied by import manufacturers, who provides with cheaper output.

At the same time, to avoid deficit in book the draft bill offers long-term program of gradual reduction of import.

Ukraine and Turkey to cooperate in the power engineering sphere

The Cabinet of Ukraine has passed Ukraine-Turkey intergovernmental agreement of November 5. It reads about bilateral cooperation in the power engineering industry.

The full text of the agreement is posted on the official site if Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The document regulates development of relationships in the field of power production; power distribution and transmission, realization of invest projects, reconstruction of electric power stations and electricity supply network, the exchange of experts and the training.

Moreover, the participants of the negotiations reached the agreement on information exchange concerning the legislation and tariff policy.
