Ukraine-Germany Business forum to be held in Autonomy Republic of Crimea

On October 4-6, German Bureau of the Economical Delegate to Ukraine and Ministry of Economy and Labour of German initiates to organize Business Forum for Ukrainian and German entrepreneurs. The Forum will be held in Crimea.

The general target of the event is to render Ukrainian and German enterprises assistance in establishment of direct business relations concerning the activity on the markets of two states. There are following questions among the agenda: participation of the enterprises in the investment projects, cooperation with Ukrainian entrepreneurs, the discussion of the prospects of the activity in third world’s markets (CIS included) and creation of the joint enterprises.

On October 4, German delegation is to meet Anatoly Burdyugov the Chairman of Council of Ministers of Crimea.

Ukraine still remains the object of the PACE’s monitoring

The PACE’s autumnal session got under way in Strasbourg, which, among other agenda items, will address, for the sixth time, Ukraine’s abidance by its EuroCouncil membership commitments.

Ukraine still remains the object of the PACE’s monitoring as the nation has certain debts, such as the adoption of a new Criminal – Procedural Code, the Prosecutor General Office’s reformation, ratification of the European Charter on Regional Languages and Languages of National Minorities.

On October 6 Rapporteurs Hanne Severinsen and Renate Wohlwend will deliver their report on Ukraine.

The Verkhovna Rada Permanent Delegation to the PACE have arrived in Strasbourg to actively champion Ukraine’s interests, the EuroCouncil press service told.

The PACE session will likely press for adoption of bills on the President and the Cabinet, with a view of legislatively separating powers.

The session is also expected to suggest that the issue of Ukraine be addressed once again after the March 2006 elections.

Ukraine’s Prime Minister to meet with Euro-Commision and NATO leaders

During his visit to Brussels, slated for October 6 and 7, 2005, Prime Minister Yuri Yekhanurov is supposed to meet with the EuroCommission’s and NATO’s leaders, President of the EuroCommission Jose Manuel Barroso, the EU’s High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana and the Euro Commission’s Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson, the EU representative’s press office told.

During the meetings the focal points of Ukraine-EU relationships, fulfillment of Ukraine’s-EU Action Plan, Ukraine’s integration and the Ukraine-EU Summit are expected to be discussed.

On October 3, the Prime Minister was expected to participate in the economic conference “Ukraine Looks Into Future: Under Reformation” and make a speech on the policy of reformation in Ukraine.

On October 7, Yuri Yekhanurov is supposed to visit NATO’s HQ and meet there with Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and the representatives of the North-Atlantic Council. During this meeting the parties are supposed to consider matters of bipartite cooperation, NATO Action Plan and pressing matters of international politics, NATO’s press-service told.

NATO is looking forward to this visit, as it will enable us to get familiar with Yuri Yekhanurov’s views on Ukraine’s-NATO cooperation, NATO’s representative told.

Yushchenko issues direction toward enhancing Ukrainian economy’s competitiveness

According to President Victor Yushchenko’s official web site, the Head of State has issued a direction toward enhancing the Ukrainian economy’s competitiveness in the process of Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

The document instructs the Cabinet, the NBU to analyse the economy’s competitiveness and specify conditions, which are necessary for the economy’s efficient performance, by late 2005.

The Government and the NBU will have to compile an analytical report, named “Competitive Ukraine,” and organise the document’s public discussion.

The direction also provides for drafting and endorsing, within 2006’s first half, The State Program of securing the Ukrainian economy’s competitiveness.

Pirates violated Andrey Yushchenko’s rights

Three young people replicated collections “History of orange revolution” on infringing DVD, as reported by NTN TV channel.

According to the channel, “fakes were duplicated in one-room apartment in one of Kiev’s district. The apartment was rented by two guys and a girl.

There was a monitor in the room, on which pirates were looking through their records. The kitchen was reequipped for replication of CDs. With the help of three system blocks cine amateur duplicated about 200 disks per week.”

“With this gear pirates replicated well-known collection of orange events, sticking on Victor Yushchenko’s portraits. Other labels were printed with two modern printers,” NTN reported.

The channel asserts that “finished fakes were sold on city markets at 25 hryvnias (5$). Every week the pirates gained about five thousand.”

Except for fakes, it was also found 300 original disks.

Rights to brands of “orange revolution” belong to Andrey Yushchenko, the President’s son. For violation of copyright the young people face a big fine. The law machinery authorities say the pirates may be given a chance to redeem their fault by means of two-year correctional labour.

Presidents of Russia and Ukraine agreed upon the joint custom frontier posts

Yuri Yekhanurov informed that President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko and President of Russia Vladimir Putin agreed upon formation of joint Ukrainian and Russian customs frontier posts.

Yekhanurov mentioned that the agreement was reached during the phone conversation of Yushchenko and Putin. He emphasized the importance of immediately contact of Ukrainian and Russian customs officials.

The start of the first joint frontier post will signal that the there comes better time for Ukrainian-Russian relations, Ukrainian PM Yekhanurov stated it.

He adds that there comes time of normal partnership and professional relations taking into account the national interests of two states.

Cabinet recalled two WTO draft bills

Chairman of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Vladimir Litvin considers unlikely the near-term consideration of WTO draft bills in the Parliament, ForUm’s correspondent reported.

Litvin informed journalists that Cabinet of Ministers recalled from VR two draft bills, necessary for entering WTO, for more detailed revision.

According to Litvin, he agrees with Ukraine PM’s position that WTO draft bills need thorough revision.

The Cabinet of Ukraine to unite databases of state departments

The Cabinet of Ukraine to unite databases of state departments

The Cabinet plans to unite databases of Ministry of Finance, the Treasury, the State Tax Administration and State Customs Service, the PM of Ukraine announces during the presentation of the new Chairman of the State Customs Service Alexander Yegorov.

“We must do our best in order to prevent the separate and non-coordinated work of the state departments,” said the PM of Ukraine.

As a reminder, Victor Yushchenko signed the decree on Yegorov’s appointment on September 23.

Alexander Yegorov, 47, was the first deputy of the Chairman of the State Customs Service form January 1997 to October 2003.
