President Victor Yushchenko greeted Ukrainian librarians on their professional holiday.

“Your labor should be praised and supported. The state will spare no effort to preserve and develop the national network of libraries, equipping them with computers and promoting modern information technologies,” he says.

“I am convinced that your help is appreciated by millions of Ukrainians whose way to knowledge began in library. There is your mite among many intellectual achievements of our nation,” notes Yushchenko.

President speaks with Vladimir Putin

Victor Yushchenko spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin. They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and achievements of working groups within the Yushchenko – Putin Committee.

Appreciating the current Ukrainian-Russian dialogue, Yushchenko and Putin said it was necessary to intensify intergovernmental contacts. They agreed that the two governments should focus on issues that primarily concern citizens of Russia and Ukraine.

The sides also spoke about ways to simplify customs procedures.

The General Office of Public Prosecutor of Ukraine reveals the fact of chemical pollution in Transcarpathian

The General Office of Public Prosecutor of Ukraine accused Timoshenko’s government and Ministry of Emergency Control of violation presidential commission to remove chemical waste out of Transcarpathian. The press service of the General Prosecutor reported about it.

In March 2005 the General Office of Public Prosecution of Ukraine brought a criminal case on the fact of land and atmosphere pollution by the chemical waste of the 1st class of danger. The portion of the chemical waste of such danger was packed in sacks and situated by Ozon private enterprise on the open platforms in Zakarpatye region. The location of the rest of the waste is under the search.

President of Ukraine charged the Cabinet with the liquidation of the ecological threat and with the search of the rest of the waste for several times. The General Office of Public Prosecutor of Ukraine addressed two times to Ukrainian Minister for Emergency Control David Zhvania to assume the measures.

However, neither the Cabinet nor Ministry for Emergency Control fulfilled the commission of President of Ukraine. Nothing was done for prevention of the ecological catastrophe.

The General Office of Public Prosecutor has turned to Yuri Yekhanurov with the demand to assume urgent measures for suppression of crime and to call to account the guilty persons.

Yekhanurov will make peace with oligarchs

Yekhanurov will make peace with oligarchs

Yuri Yekhanurov promised that Cabinet will make peace with oligarchs in two weeks. PM said the forthcoming reconciliation is scheduled for the middle of October. During a meeting President Yushchenko and PM will try to find an individual approach to every Ukrainian oligarch.

And for successful “campaign” Yekhanurov will ask blessing of Moscow metropolitan Aleksiy II, while visiting Russia.

On the eve Yekhanurov visited Svyato-Troitsky Cathedral and got the blessing of Dnipropetrovsk and Pavlograd metropolitan Iriney.

Besides, Yekhanurov declared that several governors will be removed from their offices.

“Next week will be devoted to thorough examination of governors’ work. Against the results of the working group, headed by Roman Bezsmertnny, there will be correspondent staff changes,” said Yekhanurov. According to him, the first, who will be dismissed, are those governors, who do not have authority over citizens. Within this, Yekhanurov did not specify who will determine the level of the authority.

The helicopter crashed in Rivno region

In Rivno region helicopter Mi-2 crashed making crash landing. The pilot was hospitalized in the very grave condition. Ukrainian Ministry for Emergency Control has reported about the accident today.

During the planned buzzing Druzhba oil pipeline, the helicopter crashed near Lebedy village.

Making the crash landing, Mi-2 crashed on the dam. But the gusty wind had thrown it down and Mi-2 caught fire.

According to diagnosis, the pilot got closed craniocerebral injury, concussion of the brain, scalping type wound and thorax injury.

The Regional Office of Public Prosecutor investigates the causes of the accident.

Rybachuk: Moscow has drawn conclusions from its behavior during last presidential elections in Ukraine

Moscow has drawn conclusions from its behavior during the last presidential elections in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Presidential Secretariat’s head Oleg Rybachuk said.

He was addressing Ukrainian journalists after featuring on a program on the Ekho Moskvy radio station.

According to him, Russia is “no longer working with a single political party.”

He said that this was also confirmed by the visit to Moscow by former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko.

According to him, the most important thing is that there is a competition in Russia not on how to influence Ukraine but on how to work with it.

He siad that he held several informal meetings during his two-day unofficial visit to Moscow, but he declined to name the people he met.

According to him, he met with analysts who have a good knowledge of the events in Ukraine, are familiar with the previous structure of the Ukrainian Presidential Secretariat, and fall under the category “Russian presidential institution.”

Rybachuk also said that Prime Minister Yuri Yekhanurov’s September 30 visit to Russia would be a familiarization visit.

According to him, it is not the type of visit that should end with some agreements.

Rybachuk participated in events marking Ekho Moskvy’s fifteenth anniversary.

Program for development of Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2006-2011

Further reduction of the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from 285,000 to 143,000 is stipulated in the State Program for Development of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during the 2006-2011 Period and Development of Arms and Military Equipment in until 2009.

Commenting on the reform of the Armed Forces on Thursday, acting Defense Minister Anatoly Grytsenko said that the provisions of the program outline concrete tasks for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the period of preparation for their implementation in times of peace and war, and the relevant compositions of military units.

Among other things, Ukraine will have rapid-reaction forces with a size of about 23,000 that will perform tasks within and outside Ukraine.

Out of these, 6,000 will be in constant battle readiness.

The main Ukrainian defense force will have strength of up to 120,000.

The Armed Forces is requesting 1.6 billion US dollars for financing implementation of the program next year.

According to Grytsenko, the relevant draft law has been approved by the Cabinet of Ministers and while two parliamentary committees have held hearings on it.

Ukrainian Chairman of the Secretariat: Timoshenko’s style is the one woman show

Oleg Rybachuk the Chairman of the Secretariat complains about Yulia Timoshenko’s style of government and calls it “one woman show.”

Rybachuk stated in the interview for 5Channel that “we worked for 12-14 hours but the decisions were passed by Timoshenko.”

“Timoshenko and Teryokhin are guilty of inconsequent economic policy,” mentioned Rybachuk.

“Ukraine moves forward to Europe. And if not our children but our grandchildren will make sure of it,” said Rybachuk.
