Ukrainian Foreign Minister Tarasyuk met with Finnish Speaker

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk met with Finnish Speaker Paavo Lipponen, on a visit to Kiev, Thursday, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s press service informed.

The parties discussed European and Euro – Atlantic integration of Ukraine, regional issues and Ukraine’s accedence to the WTO.

Borys Tarasyuk highly assessed the level of bilateral relations between Ukraine and Finland and aired his hope for constructive cooperation in Ukraine’s Eurointegration during Finland’s presidency in the EU in 2006’s second half. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister referred to the Finnish presidency in the EU in 1999, when the EU Strategy with regard to Ukraine was approved. He stressed the importance of passing new important resolutions on Ukraine during a Ukraine – EU summit in Helsinki in 2006’s second half.

The Finnish Speaker expressed his support for European choice of Ukraine and emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s soonest possible accession to the WTO and conclusion of a free trade zone agreement between Ukraine and the EU.

He also stated readiness to share European integration experience of Finland with Ukraine, particularly, in forming internal state mechanisms of interagency interaction.

Prime Minister Yuri Yekhanurov is on working trip to Dnepropetrovsk

Prime Minister Yuri Yekhanurov, who arrived on a working visit to Dnipropetrovsk on Wednesday, met with Dnipropetrovsk officials on Thursday morning. The Prime Minister reported on his work as Dnipropetrovsk Governor, briefed the participants in the meeting about the current economic situation in Ukraine and told them about the economic politics of the Cabinet in the near future.

Yekhanurov didn’t introduce a new Governor despite the expectations. “It’s very difficult to find a proper substitute”, Yuriy Yekhanurov confessed. Premier Yekhanurov thanked everybody, whom he worked with, having noted that everything what he achieved in the region, was made due to joint efforts by the State Regional Administration, the Regional Council, local self-government bodies and political forces, which stated their consolidation on the first day of his appointment the Governor. Nadiya Deyeva was appointed acting Chairwoman of the Dnipropetrovsk State Regional Administration.

Yuri Ekhanurov makes an appointment with Yulia Timoshenko

Prime Minister Yuri Ekhanurov is to meet Yulia Timoshenko in order to discuss some economic questions, PM stated in the press conference in Dnepropetrovsk.

“I would like to meet all ex-Prime Ministers of Ukraine who are safe and sound her in Ukraine. I have already met Vitaly Masol, Valery Pustovoytenko and Viktor Yanukovich. I hope Yulia Timoshenko will be the next one. I made a sign but I am aware that she and I are too busy now,” said PM of Ukraine.

He pledged to show Timoshenko’s note left to him. His press secretary saves it.

Vladimir Litvin and Svyatoslav Piskun go to Strasburg

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Vladimir Litvin and Prosecutor General will visit Strasburg as reported by the lawyer Andrey Fedur and Sergey Golovaty, MP and representative of Lesya Gongadze (mother of the deceased journalist Gergy Gongadze).

According to Fedur, October 3 Svyatoslav Piskun intends to visit Strasburg to give a report concerning “Gongadze case”.

They also mentioned that Litvin’s visit to Strasburg is scheduled to October 6. VR Chairman will also report about results of investigation of “Gongadze case.”

Defense Minister of Ukraine: Ukrainian military men are not afraid NATO any more

Defense Minister of Ukraine Anatoly Gritsenko is confident that the predestined interpretation of NATO as “aggressive military bloc” does not existed anymore in Ukraine, he stated in the press conference.

According to Gritsenko, Ukraine and NATO now discuss the issues of cooperation and development of the relations and move to real actions instead of planning declarations.

“Ukraine is ready to fulfill the tasks along with NATO in case the tasks will be approved by Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

He pointed out the fact that Ukraine would move forward and achieve the success through the reforms.

Iceland becomes 38th state to sign protocol on access to markets of goods and services with Ukraine within framework of accedence to WTO

Ukraine’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva Borys Zakharchuk and Director of the External Trade Department of the Icelandic Foreign Ministry Gretar Mar Sigurdsson signed a memorandum on access to markets of goods and services within the negotiating process of Ukraine’s accedence to World Trade Organization, the Ukrainian Economics Ministry’s press office informed.

Iceland is the 38th member-state of the working group for considering Ukraine’s accession to the WTO to sigh the protocol with Ukraine.

Active bipartite negotiations with ten other members of the group, including the USA, Australia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, Croatia, Panama, Ecuador, Egypt and Taiwan, are underway and near to completion, except for Australia.

Agricultural forecast for Ukraine: crude sunoil production in 2004/05 MY dropped 20 % year-on-year; refined sunoil output rose

According to official statistics, production of crude sunoil in Ukraine in August this year made 42,000 tonnes, down 39 percent from July and 30 percent from August 2004, AgriMArket.Info reported.
According to APK-Inform estimate, actual production of crude sunoil in August was somewhat larger than the official statistics has shown, i.e. about 50,000 tonnes.
The end-of-month stocks of sunoil at the crushing plants in August increased 31 percent from the previous month – to 10,400 tonnes. The stocks/production ratio in August was 24 percent.
Totally over the 2004/05 marketing year (September to August), according to APK-Inform estimate, Ukraine produced 1.24 million tonnes of crude sunoil, which is nearly 20 percent less than the season before.
According to statistical data, the output of refined vegoils in August was 34,600 tonnes, thereof 34,200 tonnes of refined sunflower oil. The end-of-August stocks of refined sunoil at the crushing plants kept practically unchanged from the end of July, at 11,400 tonnes.
Over the whole marketing season of 2004/05 Ukraine produced 425,600 tonnes of refined sunoil, up 32.3 percent from the season before.

The ex-Head of Security Service of Ukraine named the enterprises belonging to Petr Poroshenko

The ex-Secretary of National Security and Defense Council Petr Poroshenko gained the control on three large enterprises of Moldova: Gemini Joint-Stock Company, Bukuria Joint-Stock Company, Kishinev Glass-Works Joint-Stock Company. Poroshenko did it using offshore technology, Alexander Turchinov reveal this data I the interview for Segodnya (Today) newspaper.

“From the beginning there were trust created, then the control packets of shares were given to companies which were created in offshore zones. The money was transferred form Moldova to offshore situated in Cyprus and Panama,” said Turchinov.

According to Turchinov, there are lots of the letters signed by Poroshenko. “I think the investigation will give an objective estimation to these documents,” mentioned the ex-Head of Security Service of Ukraine.

As a reminder, General Office of Public Prosecutor of Ukraine submitted petition to General Office of Prosecutor of Ukraine. Ukraine requested to check or to deny the facts exposing Poroshenko revealed by Alexander Zinchenko.
