Svyatoslav Piskun puts obstacles to investigation of Yushchenko’s poisoning case

As Presidential Secretariat Head Oleg Rybachuk told a Friday news briefing in Kiev, Prosecutor General Svyatoslav Piskun did not notify President Victor Yushchenko about the need for carrying out an expertise in Ukraine, which was necessary for starting an investigation into the President’s poisoning.

Neither the Security Service Chairman, nor the Prosecutor General told the President about the need to have a legal document, which would result in establishing the poisoning fact in Ukraine, Rybachuk noted.

According to Oleg Rybachuk, the President was surprised to hear about this from Ihor Drizhchany, the new chief of the Security Service, and Svyatoslav Piskun was present at that meeting.

The President never refused to give samples at his body’s tissues because neither PGO officers nor the Prosecutor General told him about the need to carry out an expertise in Ukraine.

Replying to the journalists’ question about whether this will result in the President’s steps with regard to Svyatoslav Piskun, Oleg Rybachuk said such steps may be expected, same as the Verkhovna Rada’s response.

“It is decided that this rotation is the last one,” said the acting Defense Minister.

He also reported that ten persons were involved in misappropriations and that punishment will be severe, “starting from removal from office…someone will be imprisoned.”

Tarasyuk hopes UN revises its decision to cease Ukrainian peacekeeping mission to Lebanon

Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs Borys Tarasyuk hopes that Ukrainian peacekeeping mission to Lebanon will go on. According to him, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan sounded positively on the Ukrainian presence in Lebanon, while meeting with Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko in New York.

As Borys Tarasyuk told the correspondent, he means to meet with the acting Defense Minister and discuss ways to settle the issue.

As reported, in August UN Secretariat sent a report to Ukraine on outcomes of a special check-up into the activity of the Ukrainian peacekeeping contingent in Lebanon, which revealed certain financial misappropriations by some officers of the Ukrainian battalion of the previous rotation. Criminal proceedings were instituted on the fact.

As the UN Secretariat noted, Ukraine met all demands and transparently investigated into the incident.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry are negotiating with the United Nations and other parties, engaged in the incident, with a view of revising the decision to cease the Ukrainian peacekeeping mission to Lebanon.

Moroz: Gongadze’s murderers must be sentenced before elections

Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine must make for the “Gongadze’s case” to be considered in Court before parliamentary elections, as said by Alexander Moroz, the leader of faction of Socialistic Party of Ukraine.

Speaking in the Parliament Friday, Moroz underlined that “the case should be delivered to Court before elections in order to stop further political profiteering on this subject.”

Leader of SPU reminded that VR have listened the report of temporal investigative commission charged with this case and have stated a corresponding decision. According to him, those material, which were collected during investigation and delivered to General Office of Public Prosecutor, are enough to start examination in Court.

“It is paradoxically, that VR considers the work of the investigative commission successful, the essence of the crime is known to the society, but law machinery is in a hurry to deliver the case to Court,” ppointed out the deputy.
