Officials’ opinion concerning Yekhanurov’s appointment

The Parliament’s support of Yuri Yekhanurov’s candidature for Prime Minister is an important step toward the stabilization of the political situation in Ukraine and settlement of a series of urgent issues of the state’s social – economic life. In such a way acting First Vice Prime Minister Anatoliy Kinakh commented on the Thursday voting in the Parliament, the acting First Vice Premier’s press service informed.

According to Mr Kinakh, presently, the Government is faced an important task to secure the vitality of the country, while implementing a pragmatic and constructive course of the economy’s development.

The Our Ukraine faction hails the appointment of Yury Yekhanurov Ukraine’s Prime Minister and sounds sure that it will stabilize the social – economic situation in Ukraine, faction leader, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Party “People’s Union – Our Ukraine” Nickolay Martynenko told journalists Thursday.

“The convincing voting in the Verkhovna Rada proved that the national interests and common sense outweighed political intrigues, populism and unhealthy ambitions. We are confident that the Government of Yuriy Yekhanurov in close cooperation with the Our Ukraine and other constructive forces of the Parliament are able to overcome crisis trends, caused by the activity of the previous government. What Ukraine needs today is not political intrigues, but concrete coordinated actions”, Martynenko noted.

According to Verkhovna Rada Speaker Vladimir Litvin, the Parliament, having backed the candidature of Yury Yekhanurov for Prime Minister in repeated voting, put an end to any scenario, even hypothetical, of slackening Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada added stability to the political processes in Ukraine, Vladimir Litvin noted.

As Litvin believes, the Wednesday meeting between the President and leaders of the parliamentary factions promoted the Thursday positive voting. Though the dialogue was a bit late, but “it was a sincere and objective talk, which allowed to reach consolidation”.

As Prime Minister Yuriy Yekhanurov told journalists after the voting, he will name the staff of his new Cabinet next week in Dnipropetrovsk. He described a staff of the new Government as “a powerful signal for large, mid and small sized business and foreign partners”.

According to him, some third of the ministers will have nothing to do with the politics “It will be persons, who aim to settle problems, which the State faces”, the Premier said.

By way of assessing the Thursday results of voting and “shortage” of three voices on September 20, Mr Yekhanurov said that two complicated processes coincided – “adjustment of a candidature and mutual understanding among Ukrainian elites. But I think we’ve passed through these with dignity”.

Tomenko: Yushchenko traded Timoshenko for Yanukovich

Political rotation took place in Victor Yushchenko’s team, as a result of which the place of Yulia Timoshenko has been occupied by Leonid Kuchma and Victor Yanukovich. In such a way Nickolay Tomenko commented on signature of political Memorandum between President and the leader of Party of Regions.

In Tomenko’s opinion, the main political forces, which decided PM’s fate, were team of Leonid Kuchma, represented in VR by his son-in-law Victor Pinchuk, and “Regions of Ukraine” of Victor Yanukovich.

According to him, it is possible to come to two conclusions. “First of all, President’s team betrayed values of revolutionary Maidan, as the key demands of it were calls “Kuchma and Yanukovich – get out”, but not the present one “Kuchma and Yanukovich – yes!”. Secondly, it can be surmised that except of formal terms of Memorandum, the power has promised to close all criminal cases concerning Kuchma’s regime as a guarantee for today’s voting for Yekhanurov’s candidature,” said Tomenko.

Wages and minimum of subsistence will increase in 2006

The growth in the minimal wage and the minimum of subsistence has been envisaged in the draft f.y. 2006 national budget, acting Minister for Labor and Social Policies Viacheslav Kyrylenko told mediapeople in Kyiv on Thursday.

The draft national budget 2006 provides for three stages of the rise in minimal wages: since January 1 up to 350 hryvnias, since July 1 up to 360 hryvnias and since December 1 up to 400 UAH. The minimum of subsistence for able-bodied people will reach 505 hryvnia through 2006’s close. The acting Minister stressed that the draft national budget for 2006 contains certain moves to promote entrepreneurship, for instance, the load on the remuneration fund will be reduced by two percent, which will eventually result in huge sums.

According to Viacheslav Kyrylenko, the veterans won’t be deprived of their privileges. He, thus, denied information by the opposition forces in the Parliament that the privileges are deleted in the 2006 draft budget. “Such rumors aim at misinforming the society, destabilizing the political situation and failing the budget”, Mr Kyrylenko added.

SDPU (u) will not form an alliance with Party of Regions

Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (united) will not form a bloc with Party of Regions for participation in parliamentary elections-2006, as reported by leader of the Party Leonid Kravchuk to ForUm’s correspondent.

According to Kravchuk, after the meeting with the leaders of Party of Regions, he “can say for sure that social-democrats will not unite with Party of Regions. We have decided that it is more advantageous to take part in elections separately,” said Kravchuk.

He explained that in case these political forces take part in election separately, they will win more seats in total, then if they participate as a single bloc. As a result, the number of deputies-oppositionists in the Parliament will increase.

Kravchuk also added that “the opposition must be civilized, real and numerically significant.”
