Prime Minister of Crimea resigned

Chairman of Ministers Council of Crimea Anatoly Matvienko delivered his resignation to President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko, as reported in press office of Autonomy’s government.

In Crimean PM’s statement it is said that the cause of resignation is that party “Sobor”, headed by Matvienko, and which is in Bloc of Yulia Timoshenko, did not vote for the appointment of Yuri Yekhanurov on the post of PM of Ukraine.

Yushchenko explains resignation of previous Govt with mainly economic reasons

The resignation of the previous Govt was caused not only by political reasons, but mainly by economic considerations, Viktor Yushchenko said at the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday.

According to him, the Government has managed to meet four important social criteria, that is to increase salaries to budgetary employees by 57 percent, for the first time to bring pensions to the minimum of subsistence, to increase juvenile payments three to four times and increase allowances to mothers 5 to 11 times.

But, there were “negative shifts” in economic processes. According to the President, GDP paces slowed down by 2.32 times, the industrial and agricultural output decreased respectively 2.4fold and 1.7fold. Furthermore, Ukraine’s trade turnover fell from 2.6 bn USD to 118 m. USD. The President also cited some other figures, testifying to the former Government’s insufficient politics.

Martynenko and Tretyakov are not guilty

During investigation of corruption accusations against Nickolay Martynenko and Alexander Tretyakov, General Office of Public Prosecutor did not found any proofs of corruption activity, and, consequently, it will not institute criminal cases against these officials, as reported by Prosecutor General Svyatoslav Piskun, ForUm’s correspondent informs.

As for Petr Poroshenko, Piskun said special investigating group is formed, which has two months to examine Porohsenko’s case.

Piskun also reported that, according to Zinchenko’s statements, five criminal cases were instituted on fact of abuse of power. Officials of National Security and Defense Council are accused of putting obstacles in work of judicial power officials.

Ukraine sent humanitarian help to the USA

Ukraine sent humanitarian help to the USA

A Ukrainian plane AN-124 Ruslan with humanitarian cargo on board to aid US southern regions, which have been devastated by the Katrina Hurricane, departed from the Ramstein Air Base (Germany).

Under a decree by the Cabinet of ministers of Ukraine, Ukraine, having joined international efforts, allocated 3.7 M. UAH to aid the USA in overcoming consequences of the elemental disaster, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s sources informed.

The Ukrainian plane is expected to deliver the humanitarian aid, which is being accompanied by Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and Ministry for Management of Emergencies representatives, to Little Rock (Arkansas State).

Yuri Yekhanurov addresses the parliament

Acting PM of Ukraine Yuri Yekhanurov is addressing the parliament before the voting on his candidature on the post of PM of Ukraine.

Yekhanurov declares that hid government will work within the frameworks of strategical course to Eurointegration and, at the same time, will look for new forms of integration within frameworks of Common Economic Area.

“Directing to defense of Ukraine’s interests, the government will realize strategical course to European integration. We will look for new forms of integration of markets and capitals within frameworks of Common Economic Area. Everything will be decided by pragmatic and mutual advantage,” declared Yekhanurov.

He underlined that the government intends to pay “higher attention” to development of cooperation with the next-door neighbours – Russia and Poland.

The candidate for the post of PM also promises “to resume operation of governmental committees, during sessions of which it will be conducted preliminary considerations and coordination of main issues.”

He also added that the meetings of such committees will be held with the assistance of people’s deputies and public organizations.

As a reminder, Yulia Timoshenko terminated activity of governmental committees in order to not distract ministers from their primary duties.

Yuri Yekhanurov also calls Verkhovna Rada to support Ukraine’s entering World Trade Organization.

Yanukovich: We met with Yushchenko as his request

Leader of Party of Regions Victor Yanukovich declares that the yesterday’s meeting with President was held at Yushchenko’s request, as reported in Party press office.

“As for the meeting with President of Ukraine, held at his request, once again I pointed to necessity to follow the agreements of the signed Declaration for Unity and Cooperation For the Sake of the Future which touch upon our demands to stop political repressions and persecution of opposition representatives, to introduce political reform and to turn the presidential-parliamentary form of government into parliamentary-presidential one,” said Yanukovich.

As for the formation of the new government, Yanukovich considers coalition government can be formed after immediate introduction of political reform and for period of transition till parliamentary elections.

According to him, after elections it will be possible to form stable government, which will account together with the Parliament before the people and President.

Besides, yesterday Victor Yanukovich met with VR Chairman Vladimir Litvin and former PM Yulia Timoshenko. They discussed the appointment of the new PM.

“It does not matter for us, who will be the Prime Minister. We would vote for Yekhanurov, but only after introduction of political reform. And of course we will not take part in this transitional government,” said Yanukovich.

Note: As reported on the President’s site, Victor Yushchenko met with Leader of the Party of Regions Victor Yanukovich at Yanukovich’s request. President regards it as a continuation of the Declaration for Unity and Cooperation For the Sake of the Future.

Meeting with American Business Borys Tarasyuk outlines prospects for investments in Ukraine

Ukraine’s acting Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk, on a visit to the USA, met with members of the Ukrainian – American Business Council in Washington, DC.

As the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s official spokesman Vasyly Filipcuk told Ukrinform, Borys Tarasyuk briefed the American business representatives about the modern internal political situation in Ukraine, the process of economic reforms and Ukraine’s investment capability. He summed up Ukraine’s recent moves to eliminate administrative obstacles for founding and fulfilling business activity and bringing foreign investments in Ukraine.

As Borys Tarasyuk stressed, a new Government’s priority will remain construction of effective market economy and establishment of favorable investment climate. The Ukrainian acting Foreign Minister outlined opportunities for investments in engineering, aerospace sphere, financial sector, information technologies and agriculture.

He stressed on a series of challenging issues in the bilateral Ukrainian – American trade – economic relations, which significantly impede the relations’ further development. He, particularly, meant giving Ukraine the market economy nation status and the need to soonest possible sign a protocol on accession to markets of goods and services with the USA within the negotiating process of Ukraine’s joining the World Trade Organization.

The Ukrainian – American Business Council is an NGO, which was has been established for promotion of interests of American companies in Ukraine and is aimed at ensuring favorable business climate in bipartite trade – investment relations.
