The First Vice-Premier of Ukraine visited Israel

Anatoly Kinakh, the First Vice-Premier of Ukraine, visited Israel as the head of an official state delegation from Ukraine. During this visit, he conducted a meeting with the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, Azriel Chaikin. He also met with Lev Leviev, the President of the FJC CIS and renowned philanthropist.

During their meeting, the Jewish and Ukrainian leaders discussed several issues concerning the development of the Jewish community in Ukraine and the strengthening of relations between the peoples of Ukraine and Israel, FJC News reported.

Anatoly Kinakh also paid a visit to the Wailing Wall and, accompanied by Rabbi Chaikin and by two of Israel’s Chief Rabbis – Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger and Sephardic Chief Rabbi Shlomo Amar.

Also during the visit, the Ukrainian delegation met with representatives of the Israeli government, as well as leading politicians and businessmen. During those meetings, the question arose concerning mutually beneficial cooperation between Ukraine and Israel in a number of areas. Among these, special attention was paid to cooperation in the sphere of transportation and banking affairs.


Anatoly Kinakh was announced as the Head of Delegation, in place of Ukraine President Victor Yushchenko, who originally intended to visit the Holy Land on this occasion. While in Tel Aviv on July 17th, Anatoly Kinakh announced that President Yushchenko intends to visit Israel towards the end of October or beginning of November this year. The details concerning that visit will be announced at a later time.

Ukraine-Lithuania agreement on cooperation has been initialed

The agreement on economic, industrial, scientific and technical cooperation was signed in Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

The agreement was initialed by Alexander Rybiy, deputy Chief of Department of Law of Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and Andrius Namavicius, Minister of Exterior Affairs of Lithuania.

Ukraine is the first CIS state which cooperated with Lithuania on free trade before its entrance in the EU.

Official Vilnius backs Ukraine in Euro and NATO integration.

Yushchenko presented his condolences to the relatives of lost men on Goverla

The telegrams with condolences were sent to the families of Petro Nazarevich and Vasily Dubrovka who died on July 16 during mountaineering Goverla.

We remind that on July 16, 17 thousands of Ukrainians mountaineered Goverla. It was dedicated to 15 anniversary of Declaration on Independence of Ukraine. President of Ukraine along with thousands Ukrainians was caught by storm on the peak. One man died of heart failure and the second one became the victim of the lightning. 135 persons turned to the rescues for help, 35 persons out of them were injured.

Head of Security Service of Ukraine: Ukraine not to let terrorists push itself around

In response to Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigade’s threat, Alexander Turchinov, Head of the Security Service of Ukraine stated that Ukraine will hot be dictated by terrorists’ statement to withdraw in a month European troops from Iraq.


But the resolution on withdrawal Ukrainian troops from Iraq has been already passed. Ukrainian troops will leave Iraq till the end of the current year.

Bogatyryova: There is no General Office of Public Prosecutor in Ukraine

Raisa Bogatyryova, the deputy of Ukraine, the leader of "Party of Regions" is going to ask Sergey Golovaty, famous attorney, to defend her in the court. We remind that on July 15, the General Office of Public Prosecutor instituted the criminal case against Bogatyryova and Andrey Fedur, Kolesnikov’s attorney. They are incriminated a crime according to article 181 of Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article reads about divulging private information.  

Bogatyryova predicts the subsequent events saying that "the power and law enforcement agencies assume the right on truth." According to her, there is not law enforcement agency which is called General Office of Public Prosecution, instead of it the law enforcement agency on people intimidation exists. She reckons her actions concerning Kolesnikov’s defense to be "appropriate, systematic and logical ones."

"I think it (the criminal case against her and Fedur) is just revenge. It is political and ordered case," stated she.         

Andrey Fedur, Kolesnikov’s attorney states that he knows "where and how trumped-up case of Kolesnikov was done." According to his words, the General Office of Public Prosecution of Ukraine knows it as well and it is afraid of publicity of these facts.

Sergey Golovaty agreed to defend Bogatyryova and Fedur.

SSU decided to take banks in hand

Security Service of Ukraine conducts the All-Ukrainian action "Black linen." The head of SSU Alexander Turchinov declared that the action is concerned the struggle with illegal outflow of capital abroad.

According to him, the row of criminal cases has been instituted concerning laundering of "black means," added up to one milliard 200 million UAH.

In particular, there are ten banks which appear in these cases. The head of SSU promised to promulgate in the near future the names of the bank, which violated the Law.

Yushchenko to spend his vacations in Georgia

The administration of the Georgian President informed that the private visit of Yushchenko would be held on July 26-30.

Michael Saakashvili is going to break up his vacations in Holland, where he is now together with his wife in order to meet Victor Yushchenko, informs MIGnews.com.ua.  

On July 26 the Presidents of Georgia and Ukraine will go for sightseeing in Tbilisi and will visit an ancient capital of Mckhet. On July 27-28 the Presidents will spend their free time in Borjomi in the governmental residency "Likani" in the summer house of the Romanovs.

The reconstruction of the historical park in Borjomi has been held especially for Yushchenko’s arrival.

During his visit Yushchenko will see Bakuriani, the architectural complex of the 11th century "Vardzia" and the high-mountaine Svantiya and the home of the Georgian wine, Kakhetiya.

In the administration of Georgia they said that the visit of Yushchenko will be unofficial and no official meetings are planned.

SSU and FBI started to make an examination of “Melnichenko’s records”

Alexander Turchinov, the head of Security Service of Ukraine, reported that SSU started examination of the records of the former presidential guard Nickolay Melnichenko.

According to Turchinov, SSU divisions will examine the records with duration no longer than one hour, which are concerned only Gongadze’s murder.

"Preliminary investigation of materials showed that the records were made in the cabinet of the former President Leonid Kuchma, and that the main figure of the records – Mr. Kuchma," declared Turchinov.

He also pointed out that the examination would be conducted undertime – within a month.

Besides, the parallel examination of the records will be conducted by FBI.

The head of SSU specified that the Service has more than 700 hours of digital records. He said that the materials for examination have been already chosen.
