Donetsk will cooperate with Radio Liberty

"World negative image of Donetsk does not correspond with reality," stated Geoffrey Hirshberg the president of US Foreign broadcasting during his speech in front of students of Donetsk National University, DVC reported.

In his turn, Thomas Dyne, the President of "Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty" Corporation, noted that "Donetsk’s reputation is not very good". As Dyne said, "world noticed Donetsk only in November-December. People heard about corruption, anti-western disposition".

Besides, as Dyne said, negative image of Donetsk is redoubled by accident rate at Donetsk’s mines. "This, of course, does not make a good reputation for the region, but people hear bad news from Donetsk," he said.

Rinat Akhmetov, the president of Football Club "Shakhtyor", promised to render assistance in expansion of possibilities for broadcasting of "Radio Liberty" in Donetsk region.

He declared the intention on the 3rd of May at reception, given in honor of Joan Dyne, wife of Thomas Dyne. That day she celebrated her birthday.

The reception was held in Donetsk, in Donbass Palace hotel. Vladimir Shevchenko, the head of Donetsk National University, and Yuriy Grimchak, the deputy head of regional state administration also took part in the reception.

Rinat Akhmetov refuted rumors about sale of his assets and stated that recent foreign business trip was related to the expansion of his business.

He expressed an intention of making Donetsk more open for foreign guests and he promised to promote this in every way.

EU advices Ukraine to postpone joining the Union

Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia should abstain from submitting their applications to join EU in order to avoid refusal, the Commissar of European commission on foreign relations and policy of European neighborhood, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, said, MIGnews.com.ua reported.

During "orange revolution" people demonstrated that they share our (EU – ed.) value. Though, now one should become realistic. Take economy into account: a lot should be changed in this respect," she considers.

"This is a large country, important country, though they should change it and they are well aware of this", – Benita Ferrero-Waldner stated. According to her, the analogous advice to postpone the claim of EU joining should be also given to other former Soviet republics – Moldova and Georgia.

Yushchenko to sign an agreement with Putin

The secretary of National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine Petr Poroshenko declared that "the president of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko and the president of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will sign an agreement about Yushchenko-Putin commission during their meeting on May 8 in Moscow."

In an interview to the newspaper "Komersant" Poroshenko said that "this commission, headed by the presidents, will solve the problems of borders, Black sea fleet, Single Economic Area, cultural and humanitarian cooperation."

Poroshenko also reported that "during his recent visit to Moscow he paved the way for signing the agreement, and agreed the candidatures, who would head the commission committees."

Poroshenko underlined that coolness of Ukrainian – Russian relationships is a myth.

Triumvirate of Yushchenko, Timoshenko and Litvin

The president of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko thinks that "Narodniy Soyuz ‘Nasha Ukraina’" ("People’s unity ‘Our Ukraine’"), the bloc of Julia Timoshenko (BJT) and Narodnaya Partiya Ukrainy (People’s party of Ukraine) can form a pre-election coalition this May.

In an interview to the First National TV Channel, the president expressed an assurance that the above forces will participate in the parliamentary election – 2006 in a coalition and can become a kernel of the majority in future Parliament. Yuschenko believes in the unity of "triumvirate of Yushchenko, Timoshenko and Litvin", DVC reported.

"I think that these three forces have reached the highest level of people’s confidence, level that can easily form a kernel of future Parliament", – he said.

Russian oil traders run from Ukraine

The vice-president of the Russian-Britain oil company TNK-BP Tony Considine declared in an interview to Russian Mass-Medias about intention to leave Ukrainian oil market in order to search alternative markets for oil treated in Ukraine. He expressed displeasure concerning measures of Ukrainian government, which tries to contain the price increase for fuel.

Alexander Gudima, the head of the parliamentary committee on fuel and energy complex, considers that intention of TNK-BP Company to leave Ukrainian market will not cause big problems for Ukraine. Besides, Gudima excluded the possibility of export of treated in Ukraine oil, as it contradicts the investment engagements of Russian owners and Ukrainian petroleum refineries.

Akhmetov is not going to escape from Ukraine

Rinat Akhmetov, the president of FC "Shakhtyor", has stated in interview to TV and Radio broadcasting Company "Ukraina" that he is not going to leave Ukraine and plans to develop his business in future, DVC reported.

Rinat Akhmetov also said that he is not to leave Ukraine even for a few days not to give occasion to rumors about his flight from the country.

Rinat Akhmetov also stated that he regards purchasing of "Beliy Lebed", trade center in Donetsk, as quite legal.

We remind, Boris Kolesnikov, a close friend of Rinat Akhmetov, is accused of extortion of stocks of "Beliy Lebed".

German ships “occupied” Sevastopol

About hundred men with antiNATO placards were meeting German ships, which entered the Sevastopol port.

Representatives of Russian block, Progressive Socialistic Party of Ukraine and Russian community in Crimea were holding transparencies with inscriptions "NATO – no, Russia – yes", "We are against NATO".

German men-of-war’s men will stay in Sevastopol till May 7. They will place wreaths on Sapun-mountain and on German cemetery. They also will meet with the commander of Naval Forces of Ukraine, the vice-admiral Igor Knyazev, and the head of the Sevastopol city state administration Sergey Ivanov, visit the Sevastopol naval institute in the name of Nahimov, deliver the medical equipment and medicine to the amount of 130 thousand euros to the hospital of Naval Forces of Ukraine.
