Lytvyn knows why there is such haste with elections

The chairman of the VRU Volodymyr Lytvyn considers that the main candidates for the President’s position are interested in holding of election on October 25 because they understand that their rating will be reduced on January 17, 2010. Lytvyn said that today at the press conference in Poltava oblast.

According to him, in October there will be still no significant problems concerning how to sign gas agreement, heating season problems, etc. People will be still not so frustrated. Therefore, the main candidates for the President’s position intend to hold elections in October.

At the same time Lytvyn is convinced that presidential elections must take place on January 17. The added that Constitutional Court will clear this issue.

Lytvyn considers that the main slogan today should be how to save the Ukrainian people. It is necessary to unite in order to survive. He called everybody to care for the country and the people.

PR does not see any obstacles to hold double elections

MP from the Party of Regions Yuriy Myroshnychenko is convinced that if there is a political agreement on simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, all conflicts in the legislation can be adjusted and regulated. He said that today in Kyiv during the round table, the ForUm’s correspondent informs..

In particular, according to Myroshnychenko, the matter concerns different dates of early presidential and parliamentary elections.

In turn, deputy head of the President’s Secretariat Ihor Popov noted that in case of political agreement on elections, it will be necessary to take many decisions in legislation, especially it concerns rotation of CEC members.

President applied to Court to consider decision on elections

President Viktor Yushchenko applied to the Constitutional Court to consider the constitutionality of the VRU decision to appoint the next presidential elections for October 25, 2009. ForUm informs, referring to the president press service.

According to Viktor Yushchenko, the resolution of the VRU on holding of early presidential elections is not legal and violates the Constitution. The President is convinced that the decision of the VRU which has not relation to the law, will be definitely canceled.

President considers that the best way out of the current political crisis is reasonable actions – without fuss and different kinds of spontaneous decisions.

Yushchenko intends to reconsider construction program

Yushchenko intends to reconsider construction program

The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko stands for reconsidering of the program on construction of accommodations for public servants. He said that today in scope of the meeting on support of construction industry.

According to Yushchenko, for today office accommodation construction is a very big secret. He also noted that unfortunately this year there are no changes in the budget concerning accommodation for public servants

The President noted that the state should not provide the public servant with 100% of payment for the accommodation, but instead the state should provide the servant with compensation of the interest rate or give him a possibility to pay one third and get a loan for the rest.

“Yushchenko noted that the state can serve more powerful construction program by 3-5 times with the same funds we have now.

According to him, in stead to help 5-10 servants, we just help one, it is not logic and unreasonable.

Ministry of Emergencies asks 140 million for Chernobyl

The Ministry of Emergencies proposes to increase in the state budget financing for projects on Chernobyl catastrophe consequences. The Minister of Emergencies Volodymyr Shandra said that today, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

According to Shandra, the Ministry asks to increase financing by UAH 140 million. It is necessary in order not to stop any projects.

At the same time the Minister informed that actions on provision of nuclear security are being fulfilled and will be fulfilled even with those funds that are now foreseen by the budget.

Ukrainian girl was killed in earthquake in Italy

Seven-year-old Ukrainian girl, Maria Chernova was killed in the earthquake in Italy on April 6. She was living with her mother in the village in Italy. Her farther now lives in Poltava oblast in Ukraine. He informed that Maria was going to visit him this year.

The girl was still alive under ruins, but died before she was rescued.

 
Her mother was taken to an Italian hospital.

Government continues realization of anti-crisis measures

The Government is furthering realization and working out new anti-crisis measures in mining and smelting complex and chemical industry. The First Vice Prime Minister Olexandr Turchynov informed on opening the Government’s session today. According to him, this issue is on the agenda of the Govt’s sitting, the government portal informs.

He also added the Gov’t will tackle a series of issues in the area of land relations, in particular they will hear a report on the state of land relations, deregulation and curbing corruption in this domain.

Olexandr Turchynov disclosed the Gov’t is planning to approve a draft law on the overall strength of the Armed Forces in 2009 and the State Program on information-telecommunication maintenance of the law enforcement bodies, the activity of which is joined with crime fight. Moreover, according to him, the Gov’t plans to approve an Order of financial plan of youth housing.

The First Vice Premier announced among the issues for consideration of the Government is intensifying responsibility for violation of requirements of legislation in the area of environment protection.

IMF mission to come to Ukraine today

Today in the afternoon the mission of the International Fund will come to Kyiv.

The first vice-PM Oleksandr Turchynov informed, opening the Cabinet’s session today, the ForUm’s correspondent reports.

“Today in the afternoon the mission of the International Fund will come to Kyiv and I hope we will manage to continue our cooperation,” he said.

As a reminder, on November 5, 2008 the IMF agreed to grant a stand-by loan to Ukraine in amount of USD 16.43 billion.

In November Ukraine got the first tranche of the loan in amount of 4.5 billion. Now the IMF considers whether to grant the second tranche or not.
