Yushchenko reinstated Semenyuk as head of the SPFU

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko repeatedly suspended the Cabinet of Ministers’ resolutions of February 6 on staff changes in leadership of the State Property Fund of Ukraine.

The corresponding President’s decree of April 25 is published on the President’s official site.

The decree concerns resolutions of the Cabinet of February 6, according to which the Cabinet discharged State Property Fund of Ukraine leaders, including Valentyna Semenyuk and her deputies, for the period of an official investigation into their activities.

According to the President, these resolutions of the government break the Constitution of Ukraine.

Lutsenko guarantees good holidays

The public order during the Easter holidays will be provided by more than 30 thousand workers of police. The press service of the Interior Ministry informs.

The Interior Ministry states that workers of the ministry are ready to provide public order and safety during the Easter celebration.

According to the preliminary information, on April 26-27 in all regions of the country in about 14,5 thousand churches the Easter public liturgies will be held, in which more than 11 million people will take part.

The public order will be provided by around 31 thousand workers of police.

Government endorses plan for developing relations with foreign Ukrainians

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has endorsed a plan of urgent measures for 2008-2009 on developing relations with Ukrainian citizens living abroad in order to retain, protect and popularize cultural achievements of the Ukrainian Diaspora in the world.

Proposals on improving a Ukrainian law on retaining, protecting and popularizing cultural achievements of the Ukrainian Diaspora will be offered by October 2008.

The plan foresees the production and broadcasting of respective TV and radio programs, the consideration of the issue on creating a museum entitled “Ukrainians in the World,” the erection of a number of monuments, in particular, to Mykhailo Hrushevsky in Chelm, Poland, Pylyp Orlyk in Belarus and Taras Shevchenko in Vilnius, Lithuania, and assistance in holding Ukrainian festivals abroad. Cabinet’s press service reports.

PR calls Tymoshenko and Yushchenko to reach agreement

People’s deputy from the Party of Regions, former chairman of the State Property Fund of Ukraine, Mykhaylo Chechetov doesn’t exclude possibility of extraordinary sitting of the Verkhovna Rada in connection with the situation around the State Property Fund leadership. He stated, commenting on the appointment of new head of the State Property Fund.

Chechetov considers that the opposition around the question on leadership of the State Property Fund “doesn’t do honor neither to the President, nor to the PM”. He emphasized that “people who are from the one team, who declares that they are big democrats” quarrel with each other and can’t agree.

According to him, President Yushchenko and Prime Minister Tymoshenko must not opposite each other, but to reach agreement.

He thinks that such behavior of Yushchenko and Tymoshenko doesn’t correspondent to “theirs words about high morality in the policy”. “The whole country can collapse because of such actions,” the People’s deputies added.

President of the World Bank Robert Zoellick congratulated Ukraine on joining the World Trade Organization and positively assessed activity of Ukraine’s Government in struggle against corruption and inflation. It was stated in today’s telephone talk between Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko and the President of the World Bank Group Robert Zoellick

“You are following the right way. It is significant to follow this course of overcoming inflation and struggle against corruption in further,” Zoellick said.

Prime Minister of Ukraine expressed her gratitude for the high evaluation of the Government’s activity and, in her turn, stressed on the importance of fruitful cooperation between the Government of Ukraine and the World Bank.

Court suspended Yushchenko’s decrees

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko states that the court has suspended decrees of President Yushchenko concerning leadership of the State Property Fund and also all orders of the head of the State Property Fund on suspension of privatization of the Odesa Pre-Port Plant.

“According to the decision of the Constitutional Council from April 17 and the Circuit administrative court in Kyiv, Adriy Portnovthe is appointed as acting head of the State Property Fund,” the Prime Minister said.

As a reminder, Yushchenko issued a decree on April 15, which suspended the resolution of the Tymoshenko government, dated February 11, on the terms of sale of the 99.52 % package of shares of the Odesa Pre-Port Plant.

Besides, on February 7 President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko by his degree stopped the Cabinet’s resolution on Valentyna Semenyuk discharge from the position of the State Property Fund head. The President also sent the corresponding submission to the Constitutional Court concerning the constitutionality of the Cabinet’s resolution

President suggests building airport in Uzyn

President Viktor Yushchenko wrote a letter today to Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko with a suggestion to examine together with Kyiv State Administration the possibility of building a new airport near Kyiv. President’s press office reports.

Establishment of international passenger and cargo airport at the site of Uzyn depot aerodrome complex had been suggested by Kyiv region leadership earlier.

The Government is to inform President Yushchenko on the decision adopted before June 15.

BYuT thinks about participation in further NCC work

BYuT has not yet decided about its participation in further work of the National Constitutional Council. Leader of the BYuT, PM of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko stated at the press conference, commenting on the cancellation of the sitting of the Constitutional Council and statements of the People’s deputies from the BYuT faction about possible withdrawal from the Council’s composition: “The President didn’t come to the sitting of the Constitutional Council, that’s why all representatives went home.”

The PM explained once more that according to the acting laws and the Constitution of Ukraine, all changes into the Main Law must be adopted in the VRU.

According to her, now working groups are working at preparation of changes into the Constitution, the composition of which includes famous specialists of the Constitutional law. Tymoshenko hopes that changes into the Constitution will be approved by all political forces “in absolute harmony”.

PM calls political partners to stop opposition with government

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko calls political partners to stop opposition with the government, Yulia Tymoshenko stated at the press conference in the Cabinet of Ministers of Friday.

“The government doesn’t plan to fight, doesn’t fight with anybody and I think it is necessary to stop political opposition in the political environment,” Tymoshenko said.

The PM thinks that the government must “be released from pressure and all illegal decisions” in order to work normally.

Tymoshenko expressed assurance that the government copes with its tasks, including the struggle against corruption, fulfillment of profitable part of the budget, stop of the corrupted privatization.

According to Tymoshenko, the reason of the political instability in Ukraine is non balanced Constitution, which was adopted in a hurry in 2004, and struggle among political partners.

Yushchenko admitted armed forces of other states to Ukraine

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko signed a Decree “On the right of access of the armed forces of other states on the territory of Ukraine in 2008 for participation in multinational military studies”.

The Decree was published on April 25 on the official site of the Head of the State.

According to the document, within the framework of the military cooperation the President allows to admit to the territory of Ukraine the armed forces of the foreign states: the Russian Federation, the Kingdom of Belgium, the Republic of Moldova, the Republic of Belarus, the USA, Romania, the Republic of Poland, Canada, and the Lithuanian Republic.
