Yanukovych named main aim of his visit to Brussels

Leader of Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych in scope of his today’s visit to Brussels noted that the main aim of his visit is participation in 10th session of Committee on cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union, the ForUm’s correspondent informs, referring to the press service of PR.

Yanukovych noted that one of the discussed issues at the session was new enhanced agreement between Ukraine and the EU for next 10 years. According to Yanukovych issue on simplification of visa regime was also discussed.

Answering the question on unblocking of the parliament, Yanukovych noted that it is possible in case issue on NATO is considered.

As ForUm reported earlier, Viktor Yanukovych left today for Brussels. The aim of his visit was an attempt to convince the NATO leadership that majority of Ukrainians doesn’t support Ukraine’s joining the alliance.

Yushchenko does not intend to dismiss the parliament

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko stated that he is not going to dismiss the parliament even if it doe not manage to hold a session within 30 days. He said that today in scope his visit to Chernihiv region, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

He stressed that he is not ready to sign a decree on VRU dissolution.

“I would like to see Ukrainian parliament working again,” he said adding that confrontation in the parliament is artificially made and only a few people who are deprived of power are interested in it.

The President hopes the VRU to renew its work in 4-5 days.

The President considers that early parliamentary elections will not change political situation, that’s why the parties must find mutual understanding by means of negotiations.

OU lost one more member

Chairman of Kherson regional organization of “Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense” party Borys Sylenkov announced about his withdrawal from the party and called other members of party to think about perspectives of their membership in this party. He said that today in the statement to his colleagues.

“Dear colleagues, I want to announce about my withdrawal for the party “Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense” and plan to aim my afforts at participation in creation of new party,” he said in his statement.

As a reminder, on February 15 head of the President’s Secretariat Viktor Baloha had withdrawn from the party. On February 19 deputy head of the President’s Secretariat, Roman Bezsmertny and People’s deputies, Mykhaylo Polyanchych, Ihor Kryl, Viktor Topolov, Oksana Bilozir and Vasyl Petevka announced about their withdrawal too.

President drives tank

Within the framework of his visit to Chernihiv region President Victor Yushchenko visited the 1st tank unit of the 8th army corpse, located in Honcharivske village, president’s press office reported.

During the visit to the unit President was informed about its missions, organization, and staff. He was also shown equipment used by the unit, as well as new domestically produced weaponry including T-64 BM “Bulat” tanks.

After that at the training ground President observed a final stage of shooting competition for the best platoon commander of the unit. He has also driven one of the tanks at traning ground with its crew. Following the competition Yushchenko presented memorable watches to members of tank crew.

Yushchenko will win next presidential elections?

Yushchenko will win next presidential elections?

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has great chances to win next presidential elections, the OU-PSD member Oles Dovhyi said that today.

“I consider that Yushchenko has big chances to get victory at next presidential elections,” he said at the press conference today.

Dovhyi considers that among factors which will help Yushchenko to win is a widening of electorate that foresees support of his candidature from Party of Regions side.

In private conversations representatives of PR support Yushchenko as Tymoshenko for them is a person with who it is more difficult to agree. Moreover, today Yushchenko’s people cooperate with representatives of big business from the East. He expressed assurance that elite from the East will support Viktor Yushchenko.

Speaking about competitors of Viktor Yushchenko, Dovhyi said that Yulia Tymoshenko has great chances to obtain the president’s position, but Viktor Yanukovych has few chances.

Yatsenyuk does not see reason to dismiss the parliament

The VRU chairman Arseniy Yatsenyuk considers unreasonable to dismiss the parliament. He told today the journalists in Brussels.

“You know my position as the head of the parliament: any reasonable head of the parliament cant stand for dismissal of the parliament,” he said.

“I would stand for parliament dissolution in case I knew the political situation will be stable at once, but I will not be so. That’s why I am not interested in dismissal of Ukrainian parliament,” he said.

At the same time Yatsenyuk reminded that according to the Constitution, the President has right to dismiss the parliament if it does not work within 30 days.

Speaking about current situation in the parliament, Yatsenyuk said that VRU tries to become independent branch of power, that’s why there are such difficult processes in this organ.

Rybachuk: Baloha doesn’t always reflect position of President

Advisor of the Ukrainian President Oleh Rybachuk considers that head of the President’s Secretariat Viktor Baloha doesn’t always reflect position of Head of the State Viktor Yushchenko. He stated in an interview with the Ukrainian service of BBC, answering the question concerning a row of statements of Baloha to the press, in which he criticized the OU-PSD and the government.

According to Rybachuk, Baloha doesn’t always reflect the position of the President, and acts as a separate political player.

The President’s advisor has expressed his anxiety concerning the role of the President’s Secretariat, which states about the confrontation between power branches and disputes among partners on coalition.

Besides, Rybachuk has said that international society is concerned about the events in Ukraine, which look like the confrontations of Ukrainian political forces.

Yushchenko removed gas tensions with Russia

At 9.30 a.m., before his flight to Chernihiv region, President Viktor Yushchenko held a meeting with Vice Prime Minister Olexander Turchynov. President’s press office reports.

During the meeting Olexander Turchynov informed Viktor Yushchenko on state of affairs with paying off debts to Russia for the supplied gas.

President was informed that on February 26 NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine has transferred UAH 2.2 billion to the accounts of companies supplying gas to Ukraine. Thus, according to Naftogaz, Ukrainian side has paid off entire debt.

Viktor Yushchenko informed that on Tuesday evening he had a talk with President of the Russian Federation, during which Yushchenko informed about the implementation of agreement in gas relations, which had been reached at the highest level during Ukrainian President’s visit to Moscow.
