Holub: Yushchenko tries to “lower Tymoshenko’s demands”

“I consider Yushchenko makes such statements on Universal pact, playing some game with Yulia Tymoshenko and trying to lower her appetites and ambitions. In such a way Yushchenko shows that wide coalition is real in case he makes such decision,” the People’s deputy from CPU Olexander Holub commented on President Viktor Yushchenko’s statement on possibility to sign a new Universal pact of national unity, the ForUm’s correspondent informs.

According to Holub, Yushchenko understands that confrontation in society did not disappear after early palriamenatry elections. “The main person who pushed society to the split was Yushchenko. That’s why he tries to pretend that his aspirations were different,” he said.

Answering the question, whether CPU signs new Universal pact, Holub said it would depend on ideas of this Universal.

He admitted that previous Universal pact was technology step that allowed Yushchenko to save his face, having nominated Yanukovych for Prime Minister position. That Universal pact did not play any role.

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko insists that the first session of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the sixth convocation must be held in the beginning of November. He told Ukrainian journalists at a press conference in Bucharest.

Yushchenko notes that the parliament’s work must “be started up” as soon as possible. According to him, it must be done in accordance with the previous agreements – in the first decade of November.

Yushchenko considers his visit to Romania successful

Ukraine and Romania will activate their bilateral dialogue, President Viktor Yushchenko told reporters in Bucharest on Wednesday, President’s press office reports.

“There have been two purposes of my visit: to detect and then almost fully resolve the problems which we have inherited from the past and which have impeded our common advance,” he said.

Speaking about the construction of a navigable canal between the Danube and the Black Sea, Yushchenko said: “My goal is to help Romania and Ukraine to formulate common policy in the unique basin of the Danube delta. This, I am convinced, will take few years of negotiations which would make two sides closer and would help find solutions to their economic needs and, in the European context, regarding the prospects of using this territory.”

“We have discussed all the problematic issues and our discussions have been very correct, very friendly,” he said, expressing confidence “Ukraine and Romania have taken the second breath today to settle their difficult and mostly inherited problems.”

Yushchenko said he had signed a protocol with his Romanian counterpart, Traian Basescu, yesterday to develop humanitarian, economic and social ties between the two countries. He said Romania’s president, prime minister and senate speaker would visit Ukraine in 2008 to discuss space and aviation cooperation.

The president described Romania as Ukraine’s “loyal and sincere friend” in its bid to join the European Union and NATO.

“The visit has been very busy and we have discussed almost all issue regarding our bilateral cooperation in a friendly and open atmosphere. I would call this visit exceptionally successful.”

Tymoshenko will not permit to cancel imperative mandate

The BYuT leader Yulia Tymoshenko claims that the BYuT will not permit the cancellation of imperative mandate for People’s deputies of local councils. The press service of the BYuT informs.

According to Tymoshenko, attempts to cancel the law on imperative mandate for local People’s deputies through courts, “with the help of corrupt judges” take place.

Tymoshenko notes that “the norm of imperative mandate is active for today,” and she assures “we will nobody permit to cancel it”. According to her, “imperative mandate is a formation of the newest political traditions of Ukraine, the transfer to fair and responsible policy”.

Yulia Tymoshenko reminded that in the VRU of the fifth convocation the BYuT had registered the draft bill on “Discharge of judges, involved in corruption”.

“And we a one hundred percent guarantee the responsibility of judges, involved in stoppage of the law on imperative mandate for People’s deputies of local councils,” the BYuT leader stated.

Those who have not signed yet personal agreement on democratic coalition must do it as soon as possible. The President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko said that in Bucharest at the press conference.

The President addressed politicians with the request: “I ask colleagues who have not signed yet agreement on personal level, to do it as soon as possible.”

At that Yushchenko noted that it is necessary to form democratic coalition very attentively, to cast away offences and forgive one another.

“It is necessary to put an end to this process and to do everything to form democratic coalition,” he said.

“I believe in democracy. There is no such a problem the democracy and democratic forces cant solve,” Yushchenko said.

Yushchenko to appreciate new Universal pact

Yushchenko to appreciate new Universal pact

President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko intends to sign one more Universal pact of national unity. He said that today at a press conference for Ukrainian journalists in Bucharest.

President has noted that today he considers some comments on necessity to sign a new Universal pact of national unity. “I will appreciate it,” Yushchenko said.

He noted that during early parliamentary elections democratic forces won but one should not forget about opposition. Yushchenko has said it is necessary to give rights to opposition. “I, as a President, respect forces who won and I, as a President, will respect the opposition,” he added.

The President also has noted that today is unique moment when Ukrainian politics can transform from confrontation to mutual understanding and cooperation.

 
According to Yushchenko, it is necessary to define relations between coalition and opposition.
 
As a reminder, on October 29 candidate for People’s deputy from Party of Regions Yury Myroshnychenko said about necessity to return to idea of Universal pact of national unity.

Leaders of Romania to visit Ukraine next year

Leaders of Romania will visit Ukraine in 2008. President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko informed at a press conference in Bucharest.

Yushchenko noted that during his official visit to Romania he agreed with the Romanian side to determine “road map” for 2 years concerning further actions on development of relations in all spheres between two countries.

According to the President, year 2008 will be diplomatically very active. In particular, the visits of President of Romania Trajan Basescu, Prime Minister of Romania Calin Popescu, and Parliament’s Senate Representative of Romania Nikolaou Vecera are planned to take place.

Yushchenko also reminded that yesterday on October 30 at the sitting of the first Ukrainian-Romanian presidential commission the protocol was signed, where the ways of problem questions solutions were determined and the directions of cooperation development were outlined, first of all in economic sphere.

President opened Ukraine center in Bucharest

President Viktor Yushchenko on Wednesday attended a ceremony in Romania’s capital Bucharest to open a Ukrainian culture and information center, the President’s press office reports.

In his speech, Yushchenko said this event was important for developing Ukraine’s ties with Romania and added that the two countries must be partners when resolving cultural problems and satisfying the needs of their diasporas.

The president said he had spoken about how to protect the rights and interests of Romania’s Ukrainian community during his meetings with the country’s leaders. “We will resolve all the problems regarding the observance of national minority rights,” he said and added that Ukraine and Romania had agreed yesterday to formulate and exchange minority initiatives in thirty days. “We agreed that the presidents would control this issue, as it is one of our national priorities.”

Yushchenko also assured members of the Ukrainian community they would always feel Ukraine’s support in Romania. “Ukraine will spare no effort to ensure that you feel worthily and comfortably.”

President met with PM of Romania

President Victor Yushchenko met with Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu in Bucharest on Wednesday, President’s press office reports.

Two leaders spoke about how to develop Ukraine’s economic, border and regional cooperation with Romania. Ukraine wants to reequip and build border crossing stations along its border with Romania and also implement joint projects to develop energy transport infrastructure.

Yushchenko and Popescu also discussed visa and national minority issues.

The Ukrainian leader said his country appreciated Romania’s support for its EU and NATO membership bid and urged Romania to recognize the Great Famine of 1932-1933 as genocide.

Vinsky: Two problems should be solved by OU-PSD and BYuT

One of the BYuT leaders Josyf Vinsky is sure that two problems are necessary to be solved for the firmness of the democratic coalition of the BYuT and the OU-PSD bloc. He has stated today in an interview with journalists after the registration of 94 People’s deputies of the BYuT in the Central Election Committee.

According to Vinsky, these questions concern imperative mandate and accurate structure of the “Our Ukraine”. “If we decide these problems, we will have very strong and very powerful coalition,” he said.

Commenting on intentions to form a united party on the basis of the OU-PSD, Vinsky noted that “such necessity is overripened”. According to him, it was necessary to be done in 2002.
