Yushchenko holding meeting with Ivanov

President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko is holding a meeting with Secretary of Security Council of Russia Igor Ivanov in the Boryspil airport in Kyiv.

Yushchenko expressed a hope that Ivanov’s visit was fruitful and the sides have managed to prepare a draft protocol of a session of the intergovernmental commission Yushchenko-Putin and an agenda of the future meeting of the presidents of Ukraine and Russia.

In his turn, Ivanov thanked Yushchenko for that the Ukraine’s President had found time for meeting in his busy schedule.

Yushchenko has just come back from Georgia.

Ukraine is interested in deepening trade-economic cooperation with China

Ukraine is interested in deepening trade-economic cooperation with the People’s Republic of China. PM Viktor Yanukovych stressed during his meeting with head of the Chinese side of Inter-Government Ukrainian-Chinese Commission on Trade-Economic Cooperation Deputy Minister for Commerce of the PRC I.Siaojung.

“We view China as one of the most important trade-economic partners of Ukraine in the Asian-Pacific region”, Premier underscored, Cabinet press office reported.

According to Viktor Yanukovych, Ukraine is interested in widening cooperation with China in fuel-energy complex, in particular, in construction of oil and gas pipe lines, upgrading coal mines. We have necessary for it industrial, scientific-technical and personnel potential, Prime Minister noted.

During the discussion the terms of the Ukrainian PM’s visit to the PRC were discussed, scheduled for the next year.

Ukraine and Russia agreed to increase oil transit through Ukraine in 2007

Ukrainian Minister for Fuel and Energy Yuri Boyko is paying a working visit to Moscow, the Ministry’s press service reported. He was supposed to meet with Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller and President of the joint-stock company “Transneft” Semyon Vainshtok to discuss stepping up of oil and gas transit volumes via Ukraine.

Ukraine transports 80 percent of Russian natural gas to Europe and 30 million tons of Russian petroleum.

As a result of the meetings, Ukraine’s OJSC Ukrtransnafta and Russia’s OJSC Transneft have agreed to increase oil transit through Ukraine in 2007.

“As a result of two months of negotiations with Transneft, a decision was taken to considerably increase oil transit, first of all via the Odesa-Brody and Druzhba pipelines,” Ukrtransnafta board chairman Ihor Kiriushin said after a meeting with Transneft President Semyon Vainshtok in Moscow on Thursday.

Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Minister Yuri Boiko, who also took part in the meeting, said that the agreements reached will play a part in cementing a long-term partnership and will benefit the economies of both countries.

Ukraine’s PM pointed out priorities of cooperation with Belarus

Prime Minister of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych sees great opportunities for growth of commodity turnover with Belarus. The Premier told Thursday during the meeting with the first vice PM of Belarus Vladimir Semashko.

Yanukovych noted that very promising spheres of cooperation are tractor and motor-car construction, chemical industry, production of fertilizers.

Yanukovych separately mentioned energy as the most priority sphere of cooperation. He noted that energy issue will be discussed at a meeting with Belarus PM in Minsk on November 24, and also in the margins of the session of the Council of heads of governments of countries – CIS members.

Putin to visit Ukraine December 22

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will pay an official visit to Ukraine on December 22. Secretary of National Security and Defense Council Vitaly Hayduk told journalists after the meeting with his Russian colleague Igor Ivanov.

“We have agreed the date of holding intergovernmental commission Yushchenko-Putin. It will take place on December 22 in Kyiv,” he said.

According to Hayduk, on December 9 a meeting between Defense Ministers of Ukraine and Russia will take place, and a session of the committee on humanitarian affairs, headed by Education Ministers of Ukraine and Russia will come about.

Hayduk noted that a package of documents for signing is rather extensive, and it provides for inking a working plan of Yushchenko-Putin commission for 2007-2008.

Government will always support Ukrainian sport

Yanukovych: Government will always support Ukrainian sport

Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych participated in the portback election meeting of the XX General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine, Cabinet press office reported.

Addressing the participants of General Assembly the PM noted that the 2007 draft Budget allocations for sports development increased by 20%. Prime Minister reported that the Government provides funds for supporting the activity of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine in the 2007 Budget.

Viktor Yanukovych has also urged to local authorities to promote sports development. The State should form an efficient system of sports financing, introducing modern approaches, Prime Minister stressed.

The Head of Government noted that the Cabinet of Ministers decided to delegate First Deputy Minister of Finance Vadym Kopylov to the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. “We have concluded that it is necessary to delegate the Cabinet’s representative to the NOC. It will be the First Deputy Minister of Finance Vadym Kopylov“, Viktor Yanukovych said. At the same time Prime Minister emphasized that the Government is ready to support domestic sport and sports of high achievements, in particular.

Ukraine is ready to become mediator between Russia and Georgia

Ukraine confirms its readiness to become a mediator in negotiations between Russia and Georgia, Ukraine’s President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko declared speaking in Georgian parliament at the session on the occasion of the third anniversary of “rose revolution.”

The President said Ukraine followed the development of relations between Russia and Georgia.

“Ukraine again offers its help as a third party with an international mandate to resolve the conflict in a way that would satisfy the two sides,” he said, adding that Ukraine and Georgia should cooperate in this area as equal and close partners.

Yushchenko stands for stirring up cooperation between Ukraine and Georgia

Victor Yushchenko has spoken in the Georgian parliament to mark the third anniversary of the Rose Revolution, president’s press office reported.

In his speech, the President said, “On the part of Ukrainians, I honor you as a wonderful and great nation.”

Yushchenko said the Rose Revolution in Georgia and the Orange Revolution in Ukraine were the components of “the unstoppable democratic process, which embraces all territories where thoughts and feelings reign.” He added that the two nations would gain true freedom “when they continue reforms.”

Speaking about ways to build closer ties between Ukraine and Georgia, Yushchenko said it was important to “fill this relationship with specific new projects.”

“I hope the experience of the GUAM states, Georgia in particular, in the implementation of such regional projects as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Supsa, Baku-Erzurum and also Baku-Akhalkalaki-Kars will help develop bilateral and multilateral projects,” he said.

President Mikhail Saakashvili of Georgia, Georgia’s Speaker Nino Burjanadze, President Toomas Hendrik Ilves of Estonia and Poland’s Speaker Marek Jurek attended the session.  

Following the event, Victor Yushchenko took part in a ceremony to unveil a Freedom Monument in Tbilisi’s Freedom Square.
